collies on a 172cup

Hi all

i bought a cup on the weekend and i love it. i am gettin cambelt/water pump/ aux belts etc all done next week so i know the engine should be fine. i am interested in some collies. but whats peoples opinions on collies on a cup?? i understand the suspension is suppose to be good as standard on a cup but i want the car alot lower as it sits way to high.

i was looking a KTR collies... whats people views on these?? i am open to all suggestions and budget is not really a issue within reason. i want to use the car on track days next yr.

also whats best for anti roll bars etc... i am used to whiteline as i had jap cars before.

1 more quick off topic request. anyone have a cup with tinted windows....

The KTR ones are OK for the money by all accounts, but you do get what you pay for. I'd recommend any of the TUV German stuff, H&R KW etc. I've had three sets of H&R on various Clios (172 Cup 182 197) and you can't go wrong. Depends on budget tbh!!

what kind of prices am i looking at fot H&R or KW, heard good things about H&R but not much info on KW.

i have the KW V2 coilovers and love them, they are brilliant and cannot fault them at all. At the moment they retails just over a £1000. The bilsteins are also very good at about that same price. have heard they are a very good fast road kit but not quite as good on track. Then there is the AST entry levels at about the same price. very much a track day kit. very firm so not best suited for hearty road driving

I wouldnt bother mate. I had H&R's on my cup but the standard suspension is far far better on normal roads.

I would say they weren't correctly setup being honest.

If you're tracking, get some decent coilovers (H&R, KW, Bilstein). I wouldn't get AST's, the mentioned options are cheaper, and IMO (having owned H&R,KW,AST's) better.

Rear ARB, whiteline. I'm running KW V2's and an adjustable rear ARB. Excellent set-up.

i've heard the kw v2's are excellent, am thinking about a set myself. can't get it into my head that spending £300 on cheaper coilovers will be worth it- just don't think they'll be up to the job imo.

i'm a believer in the more you spend, the better you get.

WE’VE TRIED IT: Another day, another Renault, this time a Clio 182 in issue 6 fitted with Whiteline’s adjustable anti-roll bar. This is a much simpler and cheaper mod than full coilovers, of course, but don’t dismiss it because of that – we thought it was an excellent consequence-free suspension upgrade that would work even better with a full chassis set-up. As it was, it turned a dynamically competent car into a scalpel-sharp front-driver with nothing more than a 20 minute bolt-on modification.


Regarding KW V2's, I'm in Birmingham if you want to have a ride/drive.

Lol, fitted coilovers, 5 mins later, back end going out on the roundabout, lol. Was all in the name of testing though.

They were set up right. I could see the potential in them as they were amazing in the corners if you were on perfect tarmac, but cornering at speed on a B-road was sketchy as you just skipped sideways across the road.

Also putting the power down on lumpy B-roads is impossible because you just bounce up the road.

They just need adjustable damping and they'd be lovely.

I myself prefer a B-road weapon.
