Collonites - lasting 4wks

  Clio 172 Exclusive
I've recently added some Collonites to my car due to washing it less often, and also for protection through the winter.

However, the beading to begin with was much better than my P21's but 4wks on from intial application - and especially after heavy rain - the beading is very flat, almost like there is no wax at all. In light rain the beading is very good, but looks the same as my parents car, which is never waxed :S.

I originally layered it over top of P21's, which in turn was on top of Jeff's Acrylic trigger sealant. Is it anything to do with that combination?

Otherwise I can't figure out why the beading seems to be on and off?

Any ideas?

I guess its not liking going on the P21s

I had 476 on mine 5 months before the beading stopped

After purchasing my 3-month old 197, i spent a few Sundays washing, claying, Klasse All-in-One and finally finishing with Collinite 476. I wash it every Sunday morning and the water still beads like when i first applied it about 6 weeks ago.

Fantastic stuff, after wondering what to get for a while, i'm glad i finally opted for Collinite.

collinite = top stuff :D

had it last upeards of 6months with top beading :D just needs a quick wash every other week and its back to its best

you will find its all in the preparation, try building up a few layers as well for extra protection

Makavelli - It was after seeing your Collinite beading pics in another thread that I decided to go for it, as I have a beading fetish  :approve:

I did wonder whether or not it would bond to the P21's, but it needs a wash - it hasn't been washed for 4wks - so that maybe why. So will give it another couple of layers to top up this week.

Just a shame I didn't capture any pics of the beading!

Thanks for the suggestions :)

gadget man.....i can see where your coming from.

i did the full prep, then seal then finally a coat of colly and after 2 weeks i can already see the beading start to fade. dont know what i did wrong to be honest.

P21s would have probably limited it bonding as well as it could direct to the sealant.

If you have not washed it won't bead as soon as you get a thin layer of grime on the car. Wash and re-evaluate. See if the paint feels slick or squeaky.

my only gripe with waxes is that they seem to attract dust. I have used duragloss aquawax 1/12 ago and it still beads and minimal dust even compared to collinites

Thanks for the replies :)

Will try washing it and as you say Rich - evaluating it again. I suspect that's probably the case, it hasn't been washed in 4wks. I have noticed that in the past with P21's once it's washed again the beading is back to normal.

Know what you mean Riz, my car's always dusty one or two days down the line from washing

Further to the suggestions, I washed my car this week, and the beading is back :approve:

It was just because it was dirty. Will give it another couple of layers of Collinites next week.

Here are some beading pics;

Still not very tight - are you using too much shampoo? Which shampoo are you using?

To be honest I never measure it out very accurately and I probably do use more than I should, but I'm currently using Meguiars Gold Class. I usually hose the car down with Snow Foam too.

My beading with Collinite is very different to that??

Mine seems like tiny beads of water all over. It looked immense when it rained in the evening, then beaded up and froze overnight. Missed photo opportunity in the morning :(

Could just be because your surface was prepared better than mine. Plus my Collinites went on top of P21's rather than straight onto a sealant, so in my case it may not be bonding as well to the P21's, as it would straight to the sealant.

Put up a picture when you get chance, to compare.

It's dark now, but if it's moist in the morning I'll slap one up, no worries.

Bare in mind it was over 4 weeks ago I put the Collininte on though. I'll see what I can do.

Ok, thanks :) . Would be interesting to see how your beading compares to mine.

My beading photo's above were taken 5wks after first applying Collinites.

Wasn't that great this morning to be honest but took these pics on my phone.

I shouldn't of opened and closed my door as it caused the streaks on the bonnet that you can see in the 3rd pic, oh well! 1st pic is the bonnet, 2nd the roof.

Normally I host the pictures not upload them to the forum, hopefully it works...

Thanks for the pictures nickl. Your beading looks tighter together than mine. So I'm guessing it's down to different preparation on each of our cars.

I love that top shot! It was that photo that made me buy Collinites ;). I had some similar beading on my car, last Friday, the morning after I'd washed it. But the beads weren't as numerous as the photo above.

Does the bead size and number vary depending on how light/heavy the rain is? As mine never seems to be the same.
