Compbrake Top Mounts, Talk to me.

Ok, so how the fudge do I tighten these up?

I have a SRS single knock when I brake/sometimes accelerate and I found play in the passenger wheel, I changed the ball joint and this play went away, but alas this knock didn't.

I'm now thinking top mounts? I have compbrake items, but they don't look as easy to tighten up as the standard items... please help CS, lol!

they are rubbish. throw them in the bin and stick with the standard topmounts which are fine for the job.
i tried everything to get the compbrake ones tight but i couldnt stop them knocking and moving.

AST top mounts are awesome, one of the best mods ive done to the Clio, LOVE them.

How much are standard top mounts does anyone know off hand? It's driving me mental now tbqh!

The knock seems to be getting worse so its worrying, lol!

Is it just the C spanner to get the compbrake ones off?

My Comprake ones have always been fine, fitted for 2years / 24k now

Well if it is the topmounts, they're anything but fine, it's a real big knock. As far as I can tell there is movement in either balljoint now, when jacked up wheels feel solid as.

The only other thing on the MOT was "steering rack bushes slightly worn"

But I doubt that's going to be causing it is it?

Take it to a garage ffs! You've spent long enough thinking about it now and trying to sort it yourself! Take it to a garage and be done with it!

Unfortunately atm is £££ that's putting me off... I've got £100 left until payday, last working day of the month (pauper)

I guess I need to really but I've just been trying to avoid it.

P.s no one has answered how to undo the b*****d things yet....

standard top mounts are 37.30 plus vat from renault, i was looking at changing mine unsure which ones to go for

Engine mounts... car went in to have drive shaft replaced a few weeks ago (around 5) and they checked dogbone and top mount, I've since replaced the cambelt cover, but not the mount itself as it is fine.

The mounts wouldn't cause the steering wheel to jerk either would they?

It really feels like its coming from something in the front arm/suspension.

i just bought some 182 rubber topmounts for £17 each from euro car parts

UPDATE:

£17 each??? My local factors wanted like £37 each or something??

I'm a happy man, the knocking has started being more frequent, and I can not pretty much 99% tel its from the top mount

Once I've got these off, it should be larvely!!

How do I get the compbrake items off? Undo the nut on the top then undo the rest with a C spanner???

Indeed I am Mike, you can pretty much feel its the top mounts now, you can get it to "clunk" if you turn left full lock too.

Going to try some standard ones with the washer fix

How long will it take us to shove some on?

could use a C-spanner to undo the lock ring (same as coilovers in effect). If that's a no go, loosening the ring with a blunt punch/drift/screwdriver and a hammer is viable. You'll find some chewed up O-rings when you get it apart.

Whole shock/spring assembly has to come out to remove them

danny - is it just the ecp top mounts which you think are s**t or the oe items in general.

mine is now a road only car track days are behind me now and i know fred rates oe topmounts , wonder if these ecp ones are just made of even poorer quality jelly than the renault ones.
