compbrake top mounts

  Focus RS mk1
just purchased these from kam racing, should be any thing which goes between the mount and the body to protect it from scratching it when tightened up? also whats the order the parts go together? pretty please:eek:

Work from left to right, space between the O rings is where the turret would be; or search for the diagram someone made. I spoke to Compbrake and they said that the "washer" is not needed and no longer supplied but the "O rings" are. Someone on here said you can get them from B&Q, I tried two different stores and a plumbers merchant and couldn't find the right size...so gave up and bent over for Compbrake to get some.

If you ordered from Kam I'd contact them directly and ask for them to hook you up with the O rings.

thats fantastic cheers mate, i definatly didnt get those o-rings. will ring them 2moro and see if they have any to send out, wont the orings just get chewed up or break when tightened up?

  Focus RS mk1
yes, they'll get ruined first time you tighten against them. Worst design of top mount available for the clio

:dapprove: not exactly what i wanted to hear but i respect your honesty lol. theres got to be sumthin else i could use, its the top part im most worried about, isnt there any other sort of gasket i could use?

problem solved!! didnt bother ringing for the o-rings i just took a few oil filter seals from used filters at work and they are a perfect fit and alot thicker than the ones in the pic above

Compbrake mounts made a huge improvement over the OE top mounts! Yes they're not as good as the Mark Fish/ AST mounts but they don't require drilling holes in the strut top or full aligning check.

I fitted them with both rubber o'rings and washers, and unless you're a butcher, or simply rushing it, it's not particularly difficult to get them done up tight without chewing them up, just takes time to make sure they stay in the right place. Then once they're tight and in place you can torque them up properly

confidence booster, cheers mate. i was beginning to think i had made a bad decision. just waiting on coilovers now and im done

IMO the standard O/E mounts were better than my compbrake ones. They dont fit into the hole properly so still move. For the price though there ok.

And ideally you will need to get the tracking etc checked once fitted.

Position the top mount with the rubber o-ring around the threads and as you place it in the strut top make sure it sits centrally to take up any gap there is between the strut and top mount.

Mine only moved in the 1st month of them being fitted, checked the lock ring was tight every weekend and after that no movement. Had the checking done as soon as they were fitted, then again about 2 months later with minimal movement and recently had it checked again with no movement.

where did you get a c spanner from to tighten the nut and what size is it?

Don't know what size, I'd have to measure it.

Friends had an assortment of C-spanners from previous coilovers so borrowed one that fitted the top lock ring.

And you think by placing a think bit of rubber there, thats going to stop a 1ton car moving and twisting the suspension and top mount? Nope!

They dont fit in the hole, and nothing really will change that.
