Component speaker recommendation!

  Renault Clio Mk2
I know there's a fair few threads already open, but the newest is 2012 and as it's technology, I'm sure there's a lot more out now!
Basically what I want is some component speakers for the front which will be hooked up to a pioneer HU, the head unit is rated for 4x50W output. So I'm looking for some 5.25" speakers and tweeters, with decent depth and still good quality when the volume is up! The only other thing is are some tweeters easier to fit than others? I'd like to spend around £50 but can go up to about £65 if it's worth it! Thanks alot guys!

If you are looking to power them without an amp you are wasting your money and may even end up with the car stereo sounding worse!

Like engine tuning, it is not a case of pricier is better ; certain elements have to be in place and with good components the sensitivity goes down, near enough meaning that you need an amp to get any good results out of them.

That said, the Alpine Type-E components are designed to work with head unit power and should do the job well :). Something like this should be fine:

Whilst the HU may say 4x50W it will be more like 4x10W it puts out. My Alpine says it can do 4x60W but I know it will struggle to even do 15W with a dedicated power wire going to it from the battery... .

Ok thanks! So I'm better off getting an amp than new speakers? Or do I really need both to see a difference? Will a 2 way amp be able to power two front speakers and a sub or do I need a 4 way? Thanks man!

In an ideal world you would do the following:
2 or 3 way front components
subwoofer
Amplifier(s) to run the above
Ample amount of processing power
Sound deadening.

But of course you would end up with way more wiring, less of a boot and more weight.

However, that can be said to any walk of life. A Clio would handle better with less weight, an ATB, Bilstein suspension but it may cause compromises elsewhere. It really is a case of how far do you wish to go?

With that said I would personally change the component speakers to the ones suggested and see how you get on. Changing the HU as you have done will have made a great difference straight from the off. Why are you changing the speakers anyway?

The amount of cars I have bought with inefficient components designed for being amplifed but not as well as being badly mounted is laughable. I am not kidding here, but my JBL Flip box made a nicer sound than some of the cars!

I've always found a good quality head unit can make oe speakers improve..

Then I add a sub/and and cut out the bass from the rest on the speakers.. If needed I'll upgrade them to alpine or something..

I don't mega loud and find the car, doors, dash etc will trash sound quality anyway.. I still have my first alpine sub and kenwood amp from 14 years ago..

Good quality stuff lasts..

DD talks sense . I also have most of my kit although it is a little varied! I shall save digressing for another time.

As for putting them in Clio IIs are easier than many cars with the top of the dashboard coming off and the speaker grilles being accessible.

I personally would not bother uprating the rear speakers ; you have nothing to gain unless the rest of the speakers are absolutely dire and you have no other sound setup present in the car. Do you go to a concert only to turn your back at the performers to listen to them?.

Changing the Head Unit simply to something good makes a surprising difference.
