Computer help - NO BOOTABLE DRIVES

  Fabia VRS Special Ed
My missus has a Dell laptop, I was using it the other day and suddenly the screen went black, I was simply using a text editor at the time.

When the laptop was powered back up, it beeped twice and told me that there was a problem with the "disk" and everytime startup repair was run, it would stop at the same point and freeze.

I left it to complete the startup repair, and when I came back it has gone to the black screen again. I powered it back up and it beeped again, displaying a message telling me: "NO BOOTABLE DEVICES".

I have a windows 7 disc that I can load onto the machine, but when I try and boot from disc, it starts to go through the process, but then tells me that I cannot format/install to the HD, all of the options to do anything to it are greyed out.

Any help please? Need this sorted as quick as possible.

Cheers in advance
Liam

Depends how good your are with computers, if your fairly pc literate you could try using 'Spinrite'(google it) that will attempt to get the data off and fix the drive I think. It just downloads as a small .iso image, burn that to a disk, pop the disk in, boot the laptop and it should run the spinrite program.

Sounds like hard drive failure, get it logged with Dell if its under warranty and they will send out a replacement
