Confusion - Work Required

Guys.....HELP!!

I am getting a tractor like sound from under the bonnet at the end of the timing belt. I had it into Renault dealer today and he informs me it is the dephraser pulley and that it needs replacing.

Now he tells me that the problems seem to have being started with the wrong engine oil being in the car, and he recommends an oil change to see if it solves the noise....is this possible, would it stop the noise or do we need to replace pulley??

If replacement is required, do I have to replace the whole cambelt kit or should i just put a new belt on??

I am proper confused with it all and few people are telling me different things....

Somebody with previous history or knowledge of these problems please help....

Do a search for 'dephaser' as I'm sure it's been discussed before

Try some oil if it doesnt work then you need a new pulley.

What grade/type was the wrong oil?

Don't know what type is init.....but im doing oil and filter change wednesday putting 5W40 into it.

DR.Rollo had the dephaser go on his 172, he's got a couple vbids up with the noise from it.

It was defo the dephaser...

£500 later and 7 hours work....its fixed and running superbly
