Could my noise be a wheel bearing??

Apart from the 1-2k whistle that I have atm I noticed a whine at about 3k which I put down to the bearing causing the whistle. However while going down the motorway at 70 earlier i was listening to the whine and its become more of a drone.

To try and determine if it was engine related or not I diengaed the clutch and let the engine revs drop to idle. The noise was still there which says to me that its most probably the wheel bearings. Anybody else agree with this???

The problem I'm having is determining which bearing set needs replacing ie. The front or the rear as I can't pinpoint where the sound is coming from. I'm guessing its the rear but are there any easy ways to tell before I spend my hard earned cash on a set of rear disks?!?

easy to check wheel bearings. Jack up one corner and grab wheel at the sides ( 9 and 3) and try and push and pull on it. If there is any movement then the bearing is shagged. It will be very obvious which one has gone.

Also spin the wheels and hold the base of the shocker feel for any vibrations and listen with your ear

Cheers for the help. Ive ordered some rear discs etc anyway as they need doing. However Its only been a few months since I changed the rear pads so will I be ok reusing the ones I have or should I get some fresh ones?
