Cracked ABS ring, big job?

  172
My 172 has had a cracked ABS ring for a couple of months now but because it isnt used much anymore and i'm a lazy sod i havent had it sorted. Anyhow, i've rang around the local garages and they're all telling me the same thing... it works out cheaper to replace the driveshaft due to the labour/time it takes to replace a £10 abs ring. The drivers side ring is defo cracked and the other side looks pretty corroded to me. Best quote i've had was £250 to do both driveshafts? Am i having my pants dropped or does this sound about right? Car is due an mot in Jan so i'll have to get it sorted.

bit of a long shot, but if anyone in or around Sheffield can do the job at a good price i can bring the car to them :)

The ABS ring comes off the driveshaft, I wouldn't bother buying new shafts if you don't need them. You can pick the rings up from Renault or eBay for a 172.

I've also got a cracked ABS ring but stupidly Renault don't sell the 182 ABS ring on it's own so I need to get a whole new driveshaft :(

Cheers but i wouldnt attempt this myself, i wouldnt know where to start and dont have the tools. Do you reckon i'll find a garage/mechanic who'd replace the rings rather than the whole safts? The impression i got from the garages i called was it takes too much time messing about replacing the abs rings and its a quicker/easier job to simply replace the shaft.

I bought a ABS ring off ebay when my 1.2 had a cracked ring...

Bought it for 8 quid and paid my local mechanic 30 quid to fit it cash in hand.

Make sure you get the number of teeth on the ring right.

I think i might have read once or twice that from Renault you can only get the full drive shaft for the sports?, may be wrong but anyway i think a ring off ebay should be fine to fit?

Someone will confirm or tell you otherwise.
