Cracked ABS Ring

How big / expensive a job is it to get these replaced at a garage? Renault quoted £300 for a new driveshaft as "you cannot buy the rings seperately, so it needs to be a whole new shaft"...?

You can buy the rings here

£9.99 on ebay! http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/dodthebod
Just make sure you get one with the right number of teeth.. they come with either 26 (normally 1.2ls etc) or 44 teeth (Normally RS Models).

£300 my ass! dont let yourself be ripped off.. its a 10min job to fix! Quite a common problem, and it used to be that rings couldnt be bought on their own.. but not anymore!

I saw them on ebay but decided to buy the rings direct from renault, see my recent thread... had the same problem. Ring was £21 inc vat and thats the official part. Let me know if they give you grief and ill get you the part number, need some car details first though to insure i get the right part cos rs and non-rs had different abs rings

Had the same problem in the summer, took it to my usual garage, they charged £70. And I took the car in with only having said "The ABS keeps coming on when I break on bumpy (Bumpy as in cobble or bumpy-bricked) roads"

Im in a dilemma now. I have bought the abs ring, and need to find a garage to fit it. Originally someone from here was gnna fit it for me but said they cant once they discovered the ring had to be heated to fit... now im trying to find a garage that will charge a decent rate for what should be less than an hours labour!

If it's not too much trouble, could you get that part number? It's for a 1.2 16V, if it's a choice of 26 or 44 then it'll be a 44 tooth version.

Hiya dude. I thought they had to be heated aswell but they dont. They will just pull off and push back on. My mechanic bought a special tool round though it like clamped it in place the pulled, came off really smooth. But you could heat it up too i guess. He made me do it as he had a broke finger and im stupid and did it in about 3 or 4 minutes

most DO need to be heated to get on, most non RS models are 26 teeth, and on the parts system it usually wont provide a number for the ABS ring on its own, what you are being told by your dealer is correct !

however, i do have an ABS ring at work which is suitable for nearly all non RS models and its around £20, ill try and remember to get the part number for it for reference

Stuck my head under the wheel and counted 16 teeth on less than one half of the ring - so I'm fairly sure it'll have 44 teeth, unless there's only a scattering of teeth on the other half of the ring.

Have pulled the ABS fuse out for now until I can get it repaired.

Just took a screenshot... Hope this helps ;)

thats the one !............a '344' as we call it fits nearly every non RS Clio II, newer versions of Dialogys always say not for this vehicle when you click on the ABS ring

my 2001 1.2 16v abs rings had 26 teeth! why throw your money at Renault when the ones I showed you on ebay are just as good! At the end of day its up to you where you buy them, but if you have any other money, please throw it down a drain near me!

Really useful thread guys....Anyone got the ranault part number for a RS ring? May be worth doing a guide if this is a common fault. Ill see if i can do it this weekend on mine as im 99% sure mine has this problem...

In the meantime, if i disconnect the ABS fuse, will this cause any other problems?
