Cracked windscreen

  Breaking A 172 Replica
Cracked my wind screen taking the wipers off (don't ask!). The crack goes from the very bottom edge of the windscreen diagonally across to the little square cut out (you know the bit that isn't blue).

I wasn't that bothered as it wasn't too noticeable but it is getting bigger and bigger.

I can't claim for it on the insurance but how much would I be looking at for fitting a second hand screen or is there something I can do to stop this crack from getting worse?

Thanks

Sam

i got the same problem, but im a little worried to do it in Bahrain cos they say the dealership dont do a good job in fixing windsheilds. But mine is small, on the bottom left, its about 4 or 5 inches long. What do you guys think? shall i take the risk of possibly having airgaps or keep it this way

i've done that twice! you weren't trying to get the passenger wiper off were you by any chance!?

as above, don't fit a second hand one!
have you checked with your insurance how much it would be to upgrade your premium to fully comp... it may be cheaper than forking out for a new screen.
and no... with fully comp it doesn't count as a claim. you just pay your excess and thats it.

Yeah it was the passenger wiper I was trying to take off!

My excess would be 400 anyway though...

lol Sam  that poor poor car! It's a good job you sell houses and aren't a mechanic! :rasp:
As for the screen, I think you're stuck really. Fork out £300 for a new one or upgrade your premium then pay the excess (£50-£60).
