crashed my 172

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
the other night i was taking my mum brother and his mate into town i also had my girlfreind with me.
going round a big roundabout witch is over the m1 and the front end starts to slide i was on the inside lane and slid into the middle of the road i let off the gas and felt the back end start to go, so i started to correct it and got it back but then it slid out the other way again trying to correct it but it didnt work.

i went straight into the curb bounced up and hit the barrier (thank f**k for that massive drop onto the m1 the other side) and bounced back into the road.
thankfully i didnt hit anyone and thank f**king god no one in the car was hurt i dunno what id of done if anyone was.

it all happend so fast and i just keep thinking about what happend i can just remember my mum screamin no ben no, i wont ever forget this.
cars got alot of damage but have no idea what im going to do as i just know its going to cost alot of money i just havnt got, the cars costing me well over 3/4 of what i earn a year.
dont really wana claim on insurance as its £1800 a year then i have a £1000 excess.
i think thats it for me and the sport ill sell it for something nice and cheap and drive normally, i wasnt being silly but its just made me realise theres no point and what could happen when iam being a bit silly as you do.that is unless i feel different when its fixed, i dunno got loads of thoughts and emotions right now.

next doors cat checking the damage out, still waiting for his opinion on it.
damage1-1.jpg

cant seem to upload any other of the pics ill keep trying tho.
anybody give me anykind of idea what im looking at to get it fixed?

Gutted for you mate you was looking to sell up as well wasnt you??

You should never let off the power mid way round a bend, thats how you can lose the back end.

  BMW 330D
Thats a shitter mate!:dapprove:

From the pic it looks like you will need
Bonnet
Bumper
Headlight
Slam panel
Possibly crossmember
Headlight surround support
Your talking depending on new or used parts (whether you go through the insurance or not) £1000 + for parts and spraying i would have thought. that is of course depending on what parts you need and where the car goes to.

  Turbos.
Presumably you weren't going that fast considering you had your mum and missus in the car! Did you check for spilt diesel?

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
i was considering all kinds of options had my eye on a valver turbo and id like a caterham style car and a sensible car but all thats out the wndow.

from looking at it i think ill need..
bonnet
bumper radiator
2 new lights
1 wing
grills
and theres other bits of mangled metal, i havent got a clue could really do with a profesional opinion really.

i had to let off the gas thats why it was slipped cus it was wheel spinnin and id of just gone straight into the curb.

Gutted. At least everyone was ok. Any clue to why the front end went? Possible oil spill? Can't imagine your were doing anything to crazy with the old dear in the car?

I'd keep it like that, the cat seems to have claimed it, be a shame to upset it now wouldn't it.

Add onto that a radiator and air con rad. At a guess that would be an insurance write off if i had to place a bet.

Could do with a pic from the other side to make a better assessment.

The cat is cool by the way!!!

i think it was down to the dampness really didnt look for deisel.

Unlucky there mate, looks like it's deffo an insurance job :dapprove: Hey at least you\your family are all alright anyway, looks like you might have to have a cheap car for a bit, but i'm presuming you are young, judging by your premium ! A fast car isn't all that important, you will be back ;)

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
could be but problem is the insurance is 1800 so theyll want what left of that then theres the 1000 excess so ill end up with like 3kish and no no claims. what a f**king c**t crashing is, no recomended to anyone.

  Clio
unlucky mate sorry to hear that but for future ' When the back end goes in a front wheel drive you plant the throttle because the front wheels going round pull you out of the slide'.

I smashed my 172, I didnt claim, thought ide be clever and try and save money by having things fixed cheaply, I de never do it again. Just claim and then either keep the car for a year or so then sell.

My insurance only went up 200 pound when I claimed when I smashed my corsa!!! Yes last year was very bad, A smash in November 2005 new car in Jan 2006 then smashed that March 2006. New Car april now just sold my 182 and have a company car on way !!!

Hope it all pans out ok

Bad luck, probably diesel.

I would claim on the insurance as it will probably be a write off, as your suspension, driveshafts, mounts etc wouldn't be in good nick either.

Get the money as you can argue the value of the car with insurance company and get a reasonable amount -£1k.

My excess was £700 last year, thats why I changed insurance companys and now it's £300.

another thought buy a ph1 1.2 and create a sleeper sell as much as i can off this and scrap the left overs.

Really sorry to hear Ben. At least you and your passengers are safe and sound which is the most important thing.

Are there any forum users who work for insurance companies and who can give Ben some proper advice on what to do and whether to claim or not?

Good luck. Ax

  ST on the way...
Gutted for you fella, it's a real shitter when things like this happen but you have to move on, personally i'd claim on the insurance and just downgrade for a little while.

You might as well get it fixed some ware, go through the insurance and it will get categorised and then you will lose a heap of money on the car.

If you haven’t got the money now, buy a £200 banger and save up till you have, start sourcing parts etc

...... i just know its going to cost alot of money i just havnt got, the cars costing me well over 3/4 of what i earn a year.

Really gutted for you mate but Ibanezman is totally right.

At least you're all ok. I thought having a nice fast car was important. Yeah it's nice but unfortunately it's taken a couple of horrific accidents recently, to people i know, to make me realise that it means f**k all compared to being safe and well.

so much for ABS eh?! ;)

ABS has alot to answer for, its not always good, but like I say, best thing to do when a front wheel drive starts to lose the rear end is plant the throttle down and opposit lock, itll pull a front wheel drive out of a slide, worse thing you can do is brake tbh.

it was a joke matey, if that was a crashed CUP, the first thing peeps on here say is "its due to NO ABS being fitted"

lol........;)

mini-valver

Chin up fella, get it done through insurance because i dont think itl ise too much as your excess is stupid high and should cover a good chunk of the cost!

That'll T-Cut out.

Cant believe it - 34th post and no-ones said it yet?

Sorry Ben just bein a tw4t.

Gutted for you mate, from experience bonnet alone, genuine Renault sprayed and fitted is circa £400 inc VAT. 3 wheels = £300. 3 tyres = £ 210.

Thats over 900 quid without going into bumper/wings/headlights.

You gotta claim mate. They'll prob write it off though.

James

Edit: Though like mini-valver says, your £1000 excess should go a long way to getting it fixed.

whoops... when my front end goes i back off power but only a tad, back end never comes around. Its only when you lift rite off that the back comes around.

cheers for the coments.

my dad had a look tonight and said theyll probly right it off and give me very little for the car so ill end up coming away with very little money as ill have to pay the grand excess then the rest of my insurance witch is around another grand and ill lose my no claims.

so what im considering at the moment is stopping the insurance saving for a ph1 1.2 and sticking the bits off this onto the 1.2 coilovers brakes and create a little sleeper for abit of fun or make it a track car and just save for a sensible car for the road.
and also selling intirior i have the factory sat nav then all the other bits.

another option he said was to see what i could get for the car as a hole from a breakers, any ideas what i could get for it? maybe one for matt black?
