Crystalised crap in my engine bay

Hi guys, did a search but couldn't find anything relevant...

jus opened up the engine bay of my 197 and noticed a load of crap that was on the battery cover.

It kinda looks like when u get liquid sugar thats dried and crystalised. It was all over in small patches. Strange thing is, it was only on the battery cover, and no other bits of the engine seemed to have it.

Any ideas guys? Should i be worried? Any help would be much appreciated.

It could have been salt from the road. It enters the engine as a micture of salt and water then the water evaporates leaving behind cyrstals of salt.

Or as said above it could be battery acid!!

Sounds like the battery terminals have had water touching them. This also causes what your experiencing. As said it could be the battery acid hardening and settling. I would take it back to renault and see if you can get a new battery.

i think its just road salt. its not on the battery but the top of the cover for the battery. just wipe it off.

thats what i'm thinking/hoping.

cheers for the replies guys.

will take the battery cover off to have a check underneath when its light tomorrow.

but i'd be surprised that much salt can get into the engine bay. surely that would lead to premature rotting of components in the future right?
