CUP gone new car arrived

Subaru Impreza WRX STI (soon to be prodrived too) Well what can I say, feels and drives fantastic. Its a pain only going to 4000rpm as it has just started to go for it and im having to up shift. 290miles so far another 710 to go then unleash the beast !

Well recommended to all of you, go on, do it, sell the Clio and buy and STI.

I must say though, I will miss the race meets and the race laps, oops sorry I mean the parade laps. Maybe I can still come along and you wont notice its not a CUP as the colour is very similar, could just say it has a body kit fitted !!

My mate has been trying to convince me to sell up and buy a Scooby, he got his a few weeks back and loves it, Im yet to take it out and pass judgement.

Homerjay:- group 20 insurance with an amendment for the prodrive upgrade. highest quote was £1500 lowest was £910 and thats with 20 years no claims and a clean licence.

182_blue:- dont ask on the fuel. difficult to gauge running in but a recon about 230miles per tank being very gentle and at very best. when run in will be under 200 I would recon with average driving

exactly, you dont buy a car like that if your worried by mpg or servicing costs! You buy 1 becos you HAVE to have 1.

Hope you really enjoy it mate. i drove a 53 reg WRX not an Sti an i must admit i loved the way it drove. felt very planted with the AWD

Agreed! Its like when my dad had his 300bhp cossie saph. People would always ask him what he gets MPG. His response was, "Who gives a f**k, it just gets you there fast!"

You cant worry about MPG in a car with that sort of power, otherwise you would never use it.

I can see what people say about chavs etc having scoobies, but they are not brand spanking new, and they are certainly not the STi versions. They may have them kitted up to look like them, but thats about it. I certainly wouldnt say no to a scoobie or evo (would prefer a fast ford, but im biased)

Scoobies look a bit too lary for me, but Id like to have that power! I wouldnt want an Evo either, unless it was the FQ340..

To be honest Im probably not a good enough driver to truly appreciate a really powerful car (even though Ive been driving for 14 years!).

Running a new STi In!! Hahahah.

Was a tech with a Subaru dealer for two years.. The PDi manual states that the STi has to be test driven for 20 miles before delivery to the customer.. Varying the speed and revs from high gear low revs to low gear high speed/revs..

Basically caning it, during the drive to set the ECU and because the first 20 mins or miles of the engine is critical to the bedding in of the Piston rings.. After that then there is no real point..

However in reality the car is filled with a thin running in oil and that is the reason for the 1000 mile run in before it goes back to have some "real" oil put in it..

Enjoy it however.. especially with the PPP fitted. It transforms the car from quick to Beast, especially midrange!!


As for parts costs.. Front Discs £500 a pair, Front Pads £250 a set etc etc.. However IM (International Motors) have been reveiwing the pricing on loads of parts within the dealer network, and are reducing the retail prices to keep their customer base..

I am lucky in that I have had scoobys for 6+ years now (currently have a STI MY03 PPP with a few mods ) & I have just bought a racing Blue 182 c/w cup packs. Best of both worlds, I think so. Biggest problem with the scoob is that you will want to mod it & mod it & mod it. Brakes, suspension, arbs anti lift kit wheels etc, done it all. (mine you the AP discs & ceramic pads are cheaper than Subaru UKs retail prices, £380 & £90 per set)

Thats my point a scooby costs loads more than a clio, its in a different league !
Plus the running costs on them are mad, still if you can afford it, why not.

Thanks for your comments & thoughts, most of them nice as well. Anyway you cant please everyone all the time. Im chuffed with it anyway. To aswer a few of your questions:-

yes its an 05 model

Servicing isnt as bad as you think (unless you need parts) eg a cambelt service is more expensive on a CUP !

The insurance was alot cheaper without the PPP

Always run Optimax anyway so used to the cost per litre - just need to get used to buying more if it.

Drove the 04 STI with PPP end of last year and it was awsome.... with the mods the 05 has over that it should be even better.

The Prodrive exhaust is Stainless Steel so I hope to never need to buy another one

top motor mate,as for it being the new nova or chavs car(b****cks and who gives a fook!)at the end of the day scoobys/evos are awesome cars,in a completley different league to any hot hatch,and as for there potential?say no more! as said with the fuel and running costs,yeah there not going to be cheap and cheerfull but you know that before you buy one!enjoy your new motor mate

Sounds wicked mate. If i was to get a scooby tho it would deffo be a classic shape. Imo its the best shape, tho the new model looks much better than the rubbish bug eye shape.

I previously owned a classic shape modded scooby ( no i dont have any Burberry ) after wanting one for 5 years im sure youll love your new shape to bits. I only ended up sellin it because i wouldnt leave it anywhere, ( the same reason i sold my cossie ) not because of runnin costs. I found a local specialist who was very reasonably priced and could always source second hand parts if need be. Now im in a 182, granted the performance is no match, but id say its a nippy car with descreet looks, which was what i was lookin for. ENJOY

I have an 53 plate STI PPP, they are pretty good. Reliability 100%, servicing costs are pretty cheap too. Petrol, well who cares. Have to let me know what what the tyres are like. Enjoy !!!!

Tyres look mean they are not far off slicks. Obviously not been able to push it yet, but have been carrying some speed into corners with no problem. In the wet at speed it feels a little skitty sometimes, but if you "partially" lock the diff it is rock solid again. DCCD does seem to have its uses, I look forward to setting it 65/35 and hitting the B roads or getting it on the track.

200/220 miles to 55 litres is normal for me with varied driving, some fast, some normal & some traffic. 70 miles to the same when on track but lots of smiles.

done 1 tank in the 182 so far, mostly Motorway & A roads & done 32mpg!!!
