Cup hub/strut on non cup wishbones, drive shafts, track rod ends.

  Ex 182 owner
Hi looking to do a part cup conversion (if possible) as I believe the dampers are uprated on the cup.

I know about the 60mm fitting hence needing cup hubs. However I believe the driveshafts are slightly longer as are the track rod ends.

so the question where is the extra width generated? Is it in the hub itself or is it the wishbone width?

now If it is the wishbone can you fit just the hubs and struts to a non cup , but retain the rest of the original car?

I am planning a refurb in the summer and would like to try and fit cup shocks/springs.

cheers
chris

  Many.
If your car is lower, you should be fine with your driveshafts etc due to the driveshafts etc being straight rather than angled down as much as standard.

You could fit 172 Cup shocks without changing anything however.

Cheers Alex,
172 cup struts was not something I had been searching for as an options. Every day is a learning day. Sounds ideal as a halfway house upgrade without changing the lot.

plan would be to do new struts a probably some lowering eibach springs. Not decided on which sets 25mm or 30mm I am going to be running genuine et45 trophy turinis. So can add 10mm spacers I guess If I wanted to try the wider front track.

Extra width (and thus camber) comes from the subframe. Extra caster comes from the wishbones.

Eibach sportlines will most likely give the drop you want.

As for shocks the 172 cup was a bit light than the 182 cup so whether the damping is greater in the 182 or not I don't know...

The choices are 172 cup dampers and keep your current hubs. 182 cup dampers and hubs. Or uprated shocks (Koni) or coilovers.
