cup just revs on its own!!

I have a 52 plate 172 cup and was parked on a hill earlier, car was just on tick over and had been sat there for around 10 minutes. I didnt press any pedals and it just started revving up to the red line on its own, so i quickly turned the engine off. I then left it 5 minutes and started it again, did the same thing, so i just tapped the accelerator pedal incase something was sticking, but it just kept on going up! so i turned the engine off again.
Any one have any ideas as to what it could be, done a search but couldn't find anything.

Could be the butterfly in the throttle body being stuck wide open. Take it off and see if the butterfly freely moves.

Happend to mine a few days after i bought it. Turned out it was somthing to do with the throttle body being jammed, but i was a noob and took it to a garage and they just fixed.

You could probably take your throttle off and give it a clean if you know your way around the engine bay!!

turned out that as i have big feet, my foot had knocked the actuator (i think) and so this caused it to rev high. i think i will clean the throttle body anyways.

Its cos its a cup and doesn't like sitting still, it just wants to be driven fast!
