Cup or full-fat!

  Nimbus Clio 197

im going to be buying a 172 probably in the next week, and i think its gonna be a Cup as ive committed to buy one as long as an issue with finance on it is sorted. what are peoples opinions on the two, and which would you guys recommend? Cheers

Oh no dont go there mate, we all have different opinions on this!

If you like toys, get the FF model (I did). If you want to go a bit faster and be a trackday whore, get a Cup!

I bet a tenner this thread reaches 5 pages before I go to sleep!

Here wo go then...........were on our way :D

FF for me too.............you gotta have some creature comforts eh

cup shines on the track when your abusing it, but ill e damned if im going to sit in some of the heat weve had recently without aircon! lol

If you plan on stripping seats out... and replacing them with buckets... and using it as a track-whore, then a Cup...

If you like your creature comforts... but still want monster fun, then full fat!

come on come on Ive got a tenner on this! Seriously Mike, choose whichever one you like - theyre both awesome, and you biggest problem is finding a nice unmolested one.

indeed. im not TOO fussed about the creature comforts really, i like the look of both cars and i likes the performance of my mates 172. not as quick as my calibra is, but it sure handles in a different league! lol

I had a full fat, they are ace but the cups are more eye catching and will have better residuals

It depends on what you do with it - I commute to work all week so the car sits parked outside. So I went for the cup (if Im going to have fun at the weekend I want the most fun) - if Id still been doing 60 miles a day to work and back (as I used to) Id want all the creature comforts.

I have a Cup and use it to commute to work every day as well as "weekend fun", its bloody fantastic. I nearly bought a full fat 172 without ever seeing a Cup close up in the flesh but thankfully it fell through, I say thankfully because as soon as I saw the Cup I fell in love, looks so so much better (in my opinion, of course) and although many would argue it, it does feel more raw and entertaining to drive.

I cant say Ive missed any of the creature comforts I had previously in my Dynamique, you can certainly live without cruise control and CD changer, I dont like leather so the seats were a non-issue. Only sticking point for some is air-con, but come on, this is the UK, if you cant cope with up to 20 days a year of something approaching "reasonably hot" then get a full fat. I personally have found it ok over the past few weeks as driving to work in the morning is fairly cool, driving home doesnt matter because you can get changed/shower after. Only dodgy day was a Saturday travelling up the motorway as its not fun with the windows down, but I came home on adjacent A and B roads, took me longer but far more fun and just what the Cup was made for!

My brother in law in Naples (italy) has a basic punto with no air con! I fact most of the cars dont have air con and its about 38oC there at the mo. He cant believe people in this country keep demanding air con in there cars when you only need it one month a year.

Sorry back on topic...

cup, the ff versions just look like dynamique models to the untrained eye, similar wheels etc. mondial blue is cup only..... (which 99% come in) which is nice, love mine!

  Black Gold 182

I am looking to buy a 172....when a decent one turns up close to me (hopefully). Im going for FF! i looked at a cup and the interior is horrid, and the side strips looked awful as they had discoloured due to polishing id imagine.

I went for the FF 172 because I wanted aircon and I loved the xenons and alcantara seats. I wanted ABS too - and it was invaluable more than once. However the Mondial blue of the Cups is a gorgeous colour, the rims look great and of course theyre all about performance.

Its simply whatever suits your needs best.

i know, sorry i can see the confusion i caused, i meant i have had 172 cup 172 and a 182 imo the 182 was the best but out of the 172 cup and 172 ff get the full fat

  182 Cup, (2nd one)

Having gone a few days without air conditioning in my other car during the hot weather then getting back into my air conditioned car i would go for the full fat 172. A Bright red face is not an attractive look!

got to ask, cos im considering both, does ABS really make that much difference if you drive sensibly? and i will be doing a lot of miles, are the cups really much quicker (i mean, noticably quite a bit?)

Hiya Hector how you doin?..............are you going for it then.............Id go for the FF myself.............I dont think youll notice the dif that much :D

if you want a clio which is much faster, feels more raw, is the real "renault sport".. get a cup.

if you want a rebadged dynamique get a "full fat?"...

:p

[Edited by chris79 on 7/25/2005 4:30:04 AM]

p.s. the cups are wider too..

FF for me, although I didnt know the difference when I brought mine. I think if I had of done I still whould have gone for FF as I like the toys!!!

  Weeman sucks ****

this always makes me laugh...full fat?! the only REAL difference at the end of the day is the air con and to be honest youre a bit soft if if you cant handle driving without it.

toys...please, give over! if you want toys by something german that offers electric everything.

CUP o fun...buy one!

  Nimbus Clio 197

lol! differing opinion here then! hopefully this Cuo will come throug fine. but if not, i suppose a better idea would be to look for an excellent example of a 172 (be that Cup or normal). Either would be fine for me i reckon. cups are wider? relly? i didnt know that....

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4

only the track is wider, and its not a great difference, also cup has no ABS, which I think hasnt been mentioned and is a big point.

Never realised you meants 172, id defo get a Cup over a 172. Cups are so much more fun to drive and noticeablly faster.

Its only quicker if you can drive it quicker. Ability counts more than .20 to 60mph

Drive both, youll find out yourself. Toys and luxury(renault equivolent of luxury) get the full fat. Plan to spend you days driving like on track get a cup. On the road theres nothing in it

The difference in performance is so fine a bag of shopping will make the cup lose its edge. A lard arse cup driver and the advantage is gone, go full fat the same fun..... this time with leather.
