Cup Racers

after watching the final round of the RenaultSport Clio Cup today at Oulton Park, it was pointed out to me bu Yozza that the Cup Racers are infact your average Clio 172

reason for this - the rear spoiler, it is a 172 item, much shallower than the Cups effort

anybody else have any views on this??

According to the programme from today the clios are...

"a racing version of the phase 2 Clio Renaultsport 172 Cup "

I know what you mean bout the spoiler tho.

However taken from renaultsport.co.uk it doesnt mention the cup in the spec??

I should imagine they are standard 172s cos the comp has been goin longer than the cup has been around and i doubt that the teams would replace the cars for the sake of a spoiler?? The cups extra dimensions were possibly based on the competitions cars rather than the other way round??

0-100mph

10.5 seconds

How do they manage this then?..is it just because of the weight saving?..engine is at 180bhp right?..but there must have been some massive modifications to achieve these times?

The minimum weights (from memory) are 900 kgs wet, and 975 kgs with a driver. Any team thats bang on the minimum weight is going to have a pretty good power-to-weight ratio...but is that enough to crack 100 mph in 10.5 seconds???

The 0-100 time is a direct result of the sequential gearbox. Its absolutely amazing. Full-throttle changes, 6-speed close ratio. The lack of weight helps too.
