CUP Shock Abs vs Standard

I've done a search, but nothing as far as I can see

Why do people fit CUP shocks to standard 172s?

Just asking as mine needs a refresh, and they seem to be the same price?

I thought they had a firmer damping rate than the standard ones?! Different part number and all. I plan to refresh mine with cup items when I do the overhaul.
