Cup's First MOT

  cock mobile.
Booked in tomorrow at a local MOT Centre.

Anything I need to worry about, it's just had a 36k service.

It does have a magex cat back (then won't give me shite about this will they?), ITG Panel and Eibach Pro Springs.

  1.6 Focus, 1.6 122S
None of that should be a probelm.

In the past i think Cup's have been failed on not having something for the ABS brakes, but as they don't have ABS they shouldn't have this thing. But testers still look for it..

that didnt make any sense did it..

Yer I know what you mean, that was my concern.

Where can I find some Renault documentation that lists the spec of my car, just so I can show them if I get problems.

Mine's gotta go in the next couple of months aswell, it'll need a service as well.

Fetches wallet. Booo

I had a hell of a lot of trouble with mine. Cos of the compensator that is MEANT to be missing. I even took it to a Renault dealer who also said I needed it. I spoke to Renault Customer Service numerous times, but got no where.

Mine actually failed because the rear brakes weren't efficient enough to pass, this was put down to the compensator being missing. Even though it is not meant to have one.

In the end I had to speak to VOSA who spoke to Renault themselves, confirmed that it is not meant to be there, they then spoke to the MOT garage and confirmed this, and they were told to put people in the back of the car to add weight, and therefore increase the efficiency going to the back. A bit of a joke, but it just about passed by doing this.

I had this problem too, it was a nightmare and to think reno dealers dont know anything about it!

Tell me about it. Spoke to Renault Customer Service numerous times, and all I got was "well I've never heard of this problem on another car before".

You'd think they would hold their hands up by now and admit there is a problem.

The cars are failing a basic safety test cos the brakes aren't good enough, and the only thing they do is tell you to put people in the back of the car when you are testing it.

I very rarely have anyone in the back of my car, so 9 times out of 10, when I am driving around, my rear brakes aren't up to MOT regulations.

So this a common problem then?

Should i go armed with these links, etc when its my MOT?

What are you gonna do Sh33n?

why would they give you sh*t over a different exhaust?? Mine had the same exhaust, same springs and ITG and sailed through its MOT.

You can take the links, but doubt they will pay any notice. I took a print out of one of the links to the Renault garage, and I felt as if their attitude was "we're the professionals, why should we listen to what a few boy racers on a forum say".

Wouldn't be surprised if they threw it in the bin as I turned my back.

Its a strange one, considering the weight of the car and the size of the front brakes the rear ones are hardly used. The braking power has been tested by numerous magazines as being supercar-good, yet they are technically an MOT failure for not being good enough.

Doesn't make sense to me.

Bloody hell, I hope it goes through ok!!

Guess we'll see what happens tomorrow :(

Cheers for the heads up though guys!

OK, so from what people are saying, if people had problems, they've had to get people to sit in the back to get it to pass!?

Now I am seriously considering loading the boot up with a load of stuff!?!

Or will they take this out when doing all the checks, etc?

Sh33n - let me know when its done, i need to get mine done sooner rather than later.

Yer I've left it late, and am now getting worried. I can't wait weeks while I get all the details from Renault UK and VOSA like Bezza, he had a nightmare of a job by the sounds of it!

  Ex-Cup/Escort MK1 Mexico
My cup sailed through a few weeks ago, I had no problems or comments regarding the brakes and my cup is standard. Don't worry just see what happens !

  cock mobile.
^^

Yer, I'm gonna say nothing to them and see what happens!

I just remembered my spare alloy has a got a bald tyre on it so just toke that out!

Do I legally need to have a spare or some tyre air cans? Or can you just not have either?

According to the UK MOT Guide the spare does not form part of the test, so it can be missing/damaged or whatever..as long as its secure in or on your car. So leave it in, won't do any harm.

A nightmare sums it up pretty well. I was driving around without an MOT for a few weeks.

I've replied to your pm mate. You might be fine, as said some Cups pass without a problem.

Let us know how you get on.

It passed this morning, with relatively no problems.

The biggest problem was that I forgot to put back my standard indicators, the silver visions don't light up enough!

He did comment on the rear braking being suprisingly low, but according to the computer it was 19% efficiency and 16% and above is a pass, so not a real problem.

Thanks again for the advice folks :)

I've noticed this with Silvervisions, everyone always says "get Silvervisions" when people post pics of their cars, but I tested some (one Silvervision, one normal in the front, then stand way back and see if there is a difference) and the difference was suprising, especially in daylight. As I wasn't willing to compromise safety I bought some Osram Diadems (which happen to look awesome), did the same test and they were identical to the normal indicators.

I'm sure most cars sail through the MOT with Silvervisions, but they certainly seem to be borderline.

My Cup had it's MOT done at Renault Wolverhampton and they never made any mention of the nrake bias valve (or lack of it)

Yer they don't light up half as good as standard, but they do look a lot better.

Any pics of your Cup with the Osram bulbs, where did you get them, price etc?

Might get them instead of putting back in the silver visions.

Sure, here goes...

Front

Front Close-Up

Rear Close-Up

Got them from Powerbulbs (changed every light on the car), £25 for 4.
Also highly recommend Osram Silverstar bulbs for the front beams, plenty of light whilst still being nice and safe (unlike some of the blue HID effect bulbs I've tried).
