Custom ECU bracket

After 2 years of sticking and zip tieing my ECUs, standard and standalone, to various bits of bodywork I thought it was about time I attempted to make a bracket to mount them on.

I bought some sheets of aluminium and gave it a go. NOTE I have never done anything like this before so it may not be that aesthetically pleasing but it feels prttey solid which is the main thing!

The bracket

The siemens ECU will bolt to one side

The OMEX to the other. This still needs some thought because the OMEX is a box with no mounting points

With the air filter. This is a bit tight and I may have to shorten the 45deg bend on the airfilter pipe to stop it rubbing

Good Idea, As you've said its not massively pleasing on the eye but as long as its functional thats the main thing

Not bad at all mate! Glad it's running all right now. Did OMEX sort it out eventually?

I need of those filters aswell! Did you buy it seperate or was it a part of the package?

I just spent the rest of the afternoon trying to get the fucker to fit with the ECUs and cables connected. I have only just finished it! During the test drive it didnt rattle or fall off so fingers crossed.

I still have an intermittent problem.....

Currently using a loan ECU which has been OK but over christmas briefly showed signs of the fault although it has been alright 99% of the time. Still being helped out by OMEX and will be trying another loan one or have my own back, for the forth time, and see what happens.

The filter is from Merlin motorsport.

As long as it doesn't fall off or cut throught the wires it's sound. Gives an amount of protection for the OMEX aswell.....

Nice. Not looking forward to this aftermarket lark TBH, albeit mine will be behind the dash so "hopefully" will be alright. What's it doing now??

Cheers mate, I'll get one ordered!

It still has the misfire but nowhere near as bad using there loan ECU.

Aftermarket ECU is a big step on a modern car but properly installed you should be alright.

Yours must be close to completion?

I haven't spoke to him in a couple of weeks TBH. Bigger things on my plate at the minute, looking for houses etc!

Any ideas why it's still doing it on a loan ECU mate?

Thats the problem really. If it was the ECU then why did the same fault show on two.

The bloke at OMEX said that he would send me a third one to try which was surprising. I thought they would send mine back and say it wasnt there problem anymore.

The main problem, which they originally said was a misfire, looks like throttle position feedback fault. On a light throttle driveing at a constant speed you can see the AFR dip rich and then flick back to normal. When the ECU gets bad data back from throttle position sensor it defaults to full throttle. This makes sense but what is causing it is another question and you cant see it when you monitor the ECU.

Have you tried a new TPS? Sounds like a sack ache fella, rather you than me! The wiring looks very ghetto going to it aswell, being crimped......

No.

The wiring is ghetto throughout ;).

The new ECU defiantely sorted it out though. I took mine off and put there loan one on and it ran perfectly and did up until christmas when it started to do the AFR swing slightly for a couple of days.

I took the ECU off and reinstalled and it has worked fine for the last couple of weeks. I was thinking maybe the connection between the plug and ECU. When you refit it makes a good connection which works loose over time. I am fucked if I know though at least my car has been on the road whilst still trying to diagnose it otherwise I would have torched it by now.
