DAB Signal problems.

  FF RB 182
Installed a DAB Stereo at the weekend, new aerial one of the windscreen ones that sticks on, with a earth strap and a cable for a live.

I didn't have any electrical connectors to connect the aerial into a live so just connected it to the stereo, i got quite a few stations but the signal would break up and go distorted when driving, but seemed ok parked up in certain places.

So tonight after work i connected the aerial into the switched live on the back of the stereo, hoping it would sort it. Sounded better at first but still breaks up when driving etc. The BBC stations seem the most strong, but they did start breaking up soon, so not too sure if the area i'm in and the reception. Ive taped up the bare metal on the aerial connectors incase that was picking up interference. And checked everything a few times just to make sure nothings loose.

The aerial i have is a AUTOLEADS one, there is a option on the stereo for Antenna Power but turning that on/off makes no difference.

Any suggestions or anything?

just noticed this thread, duno if you have this sorted yet?

I fit these on a regular basis for a large car parts company (I'm sure you can guess), and encountered a couple of issues before with the antennas. Basically if the earth strap is stuck down then removed and stuck down again this somehow affects reception - gives you a sort of 'watery' noise behind audio. Also the top of the antenna should be mounted around 20cm below top of windscreen as this can cause interference. The power lead for the antenna amplifier should be connected to aerial out or ignition supply (generally red wire) as constant supply can cause them not to function correctly and require replacement of antenna. The aerial out on the radio will only be applicable if the antenna power is connected to aerial out wire on back of radio (generally light blue lead).

Personally if it is not working I would argue the case that there 'may' be a fault with antenna and see if the company will exchange it for another. The glass mounted ones are the best imo as I have had more experience of the 't-bar' one getting more interference so only use these on convertibles when a pillars cannot be removed.

Once changed antenna you will need to re-run an inital dab scan to re-sync channels - should be in base settings for radio.

Can i ask what dab radio you bought?

Cheers
Steven

Sorry didn't see your reply, all the BBC stations in my home town are good and work everywhere, all the others are patchy...but then heading into town its all patchy between buildings etc. I wired the antenna to the switched live on the back of my headunit. It is in the top right hand corner of my windscreen, due to it being the easiest place to wire it into, me being lazy.

Was looking at trying one of these

but not sure if the clio standard aerial is amplifed or not..
