Damo's Clio 172 project phase 1.5

Well thought i would start a project thread as i will be making a few subtile mods to this over the next few months to get t to the point where i want it so here goes

i bought the clio for £1600 the car had 82k on the clock and fsh which is quite cheap for one of these

as there was no recipt for the cam belt first thing first was a cam belt change so thats been done also had the oil sensor changed as that was playing up from trip to pod new front brakes and disks as the ones that were on it were screwed

after the first few days of owning it went out to it wouldnt start so had to tow it up garge with the hire car and have it looked over found this to be the fuel relays had got wet and corroded so had them replaced

any way here she is as she looks now

Got a few mods planned nothing extream just small subtile mods to make it look a bit more fresh and clean theres a few other issues i want to sort over time as well

so my to do list as follows

Poly Suspension Bushes
K tec racing stealth cat back system
Matched Inlets
Decat pipe
Phase 2 rear Lights
Phase 2 Rear bumper
Phase 2 bullets and bump strips colour coded to match car (possibly carbon bullets)
Lower about 40 mm with ebach sportlines
repaint wheels
Replace panel filter with K&N panel Filter
replace engine mounts and dog bone mount
add engine suppersor to suppress engine rock
full detailing session to get rid of grime and muck built up over the years
also look into having it remapped
Skoda Fabia splitter
Mod front bumper to add a lower phase 2 grill

looks like theres a few bits to do but over time and with a bit of hard work should be done
with me having a broken clio for parts also makes things like maintence costs a bit lower as any thing that breaks can be replced asap

Just been to pick up some Phase 2 rear lights managed to blag them for nothing which is great

any way this is how the car looked before

just by changing the rear lights the car looks more clean and moden from the rear

just finished painting the wheels managed to put two on as the other two need new tyres putting on so will do them tomos but heres how they looked before

sanded the wheels down

sprayed with grey primer as thats was the correct colour primer for the paint i was using then sprayed the wheels with the anthracite paint

added rim tape and then sprayed the laquer on to make the stickers abit more robust

then left tto dry for a day or two and put on the car along with painting the break calipers red

they have been rattled canned vauxhall anthracite grey with red rim tape and red OZ racing stickers look quite good i think just need to spray the centre caps up as well but unsure wheather to spray the dimonds on the caps red as well

cheers for the comments everyone had a quick play today with it finally got the tyres swapped on the painted alloys and put them on the front still needs the front calipers painting but think i will do that tomos

i ordered a new skoda fabia splietter from skoda dealers other day for a massive sum of 12 pound
so went picked it up this moring while having a perv on the skoda sales women :lol:

any ways got it home unpacked it then set to work

i went round drilling the holes to mount the splitter at even intervals

then started to mount the splitter and attached it using self tappingtorque screws as i had a load spare from stripping the black clio

finnaly the splitter was attached might not be to most peoples liking as its very plain but i like it as its subtile and gives the car a lower stance and carnt really grumble at the price i payed

Looks like you and I have very similar tastes, I've just been and picked up my fabia splitter this w.e and fitted a full ph2 rear end to the car (minus boot lid)

anyways i think i need a new dog bone mount on the clio. As i seem to get the odd bang and a heavy vibration round the gear box area when under hard acceration. Now a few people have pointed me towards the dog bone mount so took it off other day noticed the rubber was a bit old and soft so took the one of the black clio this was a bit stiffer and made an improvement on the banging and has seemed to get shut of the vibating under heavy accelartaion.

Anyway with the old one i had heard a rumor that by covering the outer layer of rubber on the dog bone mount in silicone it would reduce the play in the mount.
as silicone is like rubber would still give a bit of movement that could be needed as i want to replace the mount with a proper ktec racing solid mount when i have the cash i thought this ghetto mod might help untill then.

its only a quick fix and wont lose anything if it dosnt work but gonna put it on this weekend and see if it helps the situation

ok just had an attempt at cleaning up my head lights due to them being pitted with dirt and the only thing that was annoying me about the look of the car

heres what they looked like before

first step was to mask up the lights and sand with 600 grit sandpaper

next i stepped up to 1500 grit paper then 2000 grit paper sandin them dry then wet each time round

once sanded and all the deep pitting and colour had gone back to silver than the scancy yellow colour
i used some T-Cut to cpolish the head lights and get rid of any of the scracthes

well gave the car a good clean on friday before i took it modlive painted the engine cover as well but got some over spray on it so need to do it again

the cars slowly coming along nicely and really falling in love with it

just sold the oz f1's that came on the car and with the money bought some eibach sportlines for £145 found it cheaper to go to eibach than get them off places like ebay

well as some of you may know i have lowred the car

i have fitted some eibach sportlines the other week and have now finally settled
upon changing the springs i found my front drivers side spring had snapped and both rar shockers had lost all there fluid which wouldexplain why the car felt abit skitish round courners at speed so i just rplaced the existing shockers with the ones off my old sport im breking

the springs have made a vast diffrence on handling its like a gocart round courners and a very nice toy for playing on those "private" backroads

a few upto date pictures of the car

last week went with my mate for a track day ended up taking it on track was really impressed with what it was like compared to some of the bigger cars on track the only problem is now i keep getting the erge to rip the intrior out and make it into a track **** with buckets and a cage

also had it on the rollers at weekend see what the bhp figure was like it came out with

thanks to a mate and his bartering skills got some good discounts :lol:

gonna give this a spray tomorrow red then fit it when i remount the bumper as i have snapped a few mounts on it

just ordered a boss for this so whould be here in the next few days so will fit it later on this week

i have just removed the dash from my old smashed up phase 1 so will be sending that off to be flocked no doubt
and just waiting to hear back from a mate on a few bucket seats and harness's

i just started painting the bumpstrips on the car and the tow eye as well

One thing, as it'll annoy me forever... you need to remove your horn and put it back on straight, as it's not in line with the rest of the wheel.

the wheel is an omp wrc 350 pele it comes with suede or leather and with red or yellow stiching

i ended up with the leather cos thats all they had on the stall i got it from the yb racing stall at ford fair it was on offer at a show price of 115 but my mate bought a load of stuff and we eneded up blaging it for somthing like 70 quid

yeh the horn is getting removed tomorrow at work as i dint have a crimp tool for doing the horn crimp and will go back on stright

got it off YB racing on Ebay for 50 uid but think demon tweeks sell em at 40 i found out
