Dashboard Re-Spray

Hi guys need abit of help?
how do i remove the silver bits of trim that run along my dashboard and on either side of my steering wheel, is it an easy job?...secondly im thinkin about painting them similar to piano gloss black which is offered in many cars as an option...any ideas for paint etc?

I was thinking of doing my ones in my 172ff again in silver mate.

I think painting wise its quite straight forward.

I think you'd just need to key them (rough them up with wet and dry sandpaper- maybe using different grades, i aint sure.

Wipe off dust and s**t thats on surface from sanding.

Then prime them a few times (2 or 3 coats) with plastic primer then sand that down to get rid of any inperfections (bumps, dust etc) after its dry.

Then onto the painting stage.

Select the paint colour of your choice and then the same as above a few coats of paint and rub down in between coats if needed to get smooth finish after its dry.

Then onto lacquer as a top coat, a few coats of that will probably finish them off

And allow to dry for the time in says on lacquer tin orlonger dependant on temperature.

To remove them jus wrap the head of a flat bladed screw driver in electrical tape or masking tape, put it behind the trim and wedge it out, should be 4 clips on the passengers side and two on the drivers.

And what would you stick them back on with ?

And what about the writing on each of them ?

Where would you get new ones from ?

Would you get a graphics/sign place to churn you out new ones ?
