Don't worry, I'm in no danger of buying one, I've always looked at them, and simply thought.. What on earth is that?

fcuk knows :S I'd be worried about getting deep gauges in the paint though with how heavy handed I am...

It's a de-nibber. When a panel is re-painted dust particles can sit on the surface, they are then flattened and polished out.

I'm not a fan of them but they can be useful. Festool make some of the finest products in their sector.

It's not for the fainthearted as you can imagine. Think of it like a wood-plane.

I'd always imagined just scraping it down the side of your car, and couldn't really see the benefit lol

If you have never used one then dont bother. Will do more harm that good. Stick to 1500-2000 wet and dry.
