Decat Fitting

  Titanium 182
Hi I am going to fit my decat myself when it arrives and want to make sure I have all the right parts prior to starting, I am going to order a replacement clamp and some high temp silicone paste, what else should I be buying?

Thanks

Genuine renault one was £27 from my local dealer this summer just gone. Paste isn't specifically recommended by renault, nor is there any noticeable amount on as standard. Can't hurt to put a little bit on though. For the extra 23 minutes it takes, stick it up as high as you can on axel stands. Obvious advice is obvious but the CAT isn't quite slap bang in the middle, so jack up the side it's nearest to :p

Best advice is make sure you've got a decent quality 1/4 inch socket set & good spanners. The bolts are done up very tight, it's often very very corroded & it's not the easiest place to get a dremel into if goes wrong. I had a few goes hammering sockets onto the corroded nut/bolt, tried (drop forged) spanners, tried to cut through it with a dremel etc. Went back the next day with a decent 10mm spanner and off it came in 10 minutes.

hmm tempted to let a garage do it now tbh lol I know I can do it, but I am rubbish when I run into problems, which I know doubt will lol a local garage say part and labour £130 but they cant get the part for 3 weeks! And I need it doing asap lol annoyingly they wont fit parts not bought by themselves either

Anybody got a link for a genuine Renault cat fitting kit?

Also to change my mind again my dad says he actually have ramps so I will probably do it on my own now I know I can actually get the in the air lol
Anybody else had a bad experience with the k-tec fitting kit?

That does look exactly like it, though I don't memorise part numbers :p TBH, as with any genuine renault bits, you may as well go to your local renault dealer as you'll get it by 9am tommorow providing you order before the cut off time. Prefferably support the forum & it's traders (the traders like Fred, Danny, Tom etc afterall are the ones who offer most of the expert knowledge, advice, group buys etc that we have on CS)

Very nice guy, helpful, will double check part numbers for you, am sure he can arrange next day delivery.
You might not get the discount as you're not a paid member, but his normal prices are usually cheaper than renault.

EDIT: Duurrrr, that ebay link appears to be from the same company. Still, I'd go with calling him for the personal touch as you'll get a better service than just another anonymous sale on ebay.

Definitely have a go yourself. People have made topics explaining how stupid they felt when they paid £30 + parts & watched a garage undo 2 nuts...

Yea pretty simple to do. Good to see you've got new clamp and manifold fitting kit.
Literally two bolts at manifold end (with springs and washers)
One/two bolts at the other end, depending on type of clamp.

And you'll need a large spanner to remove the lambda sensor. Easier to unclip Lambda, remove cat, put it in a work bench or vice to remove the lambda, then put the decat in.

I fitted my decat, was a nightmare trying to get the Lambda sensor out the old cat! I had to heat it up on the stove and then put a spanner on it and shock it loose! It took me about 2 hours just to get the lambda sensor out! Also wear some eye protection the cat and bolts are very rusty and when i was freeing it i got rust in my eyes constantly :dapprove:

Same here for me . When the local exhaust place fitted my Yozza exhaust he struggled like fcuk to get the lambda sensor out even using the oxy acetylene torch to heat it up. I now have a lambda sensor in the decat and Cat , saves p1ssing about when i come change it back again .

Just been speaking to my dad and he told me to check whether or not I need some paste for refitting my lamba sensor?! He said its something with little tiny glass balls inside it so it doesnt jam once fitted. I said I hadnt heard about it in my research and he insited I double checked lol, so any ideas here? or do I just unscrew and refit into the decat pipe?

Thanks

slap your dad, if it takes you longer than 1hour to fit a decat to a 182 you shouldn't touch a spanner ever again!

Lamba simply just screws in, t**t to get off though.

Use a genuine kit only, and put a small bead of silcone on the exhaust end of the decat pipe.

Yea he said I may need a blowtorch to get it off, when you say genuine kit, what do you mean? I have a genuine mani to cat fitting kit, and a new cat to silencer clamp, but I thought I would just use the existing lamba sensor.
I would slap him fred but he is a mechanic from the old school days, used to work on tanks, so I always question him when he tells me about cars lol
