Decision - Suspension and Filter

  Megane Trophy
Right its time to start modifying the 172, even though i promised myself i wouldnt touch it.
The urge has begun to make it more fun to drive.

Springs 40mm drop

Apex or Eibach or other suggestions??

I Know how good coilovers are i had them on the corsa but i need this car for everyday use, comfortable motorway drives and the last thing i want is a bumpy rattly car. So its going to have to be a set of springs as the 4x4 look isnt too good.
What do people reccomend?

Induction Kit - ITG Panel or Piperx Viper

Right the viper will be cost price so thats good!!!
I want something audible for fun yet also to help with the throttle response that the panel filter will create.

And no i cant justify £350 for a carbon filter, when i could spend another £350 and have an engine management setup and have it mapped;)

Im especially interested to hear from anyone with either the Apex or Eibach springs!

coilovers doesnt have to mean a bumpy ride. Get a descent set and ride quality should be improved.

I would go for ITG panel filter.

Yup, get H&R's they're actually better ride quailty than OE shocks and springs. If you get a kit thats either more track focused or has a poorly chosen damper and/or spring rate then you'll find it less driver freindly day to day.

eibachs are progressive and Apex are linear. Apex doesnt ride as smoothly but gives a visible drop and is about the 40mm it states. The eibach are a better ride but dont really make the car look any lower.

Its a question of springs i know as im being a tight arse here.
I would love to go for coilovers and all sorts but unfortunately funds dont allow for them and i just want a visible drop and to tighten the car up a bit without making it a dog on the road and loose the handling.

H&R do springs, my mate has some on his golf, really really good, ride comfort has almost entirely been kept, the car is lower, and handles better

go for eibach sportlines, better drop and same handling. and go for the viper if its at cost, cant see it being much worse, thats if theres any difference than the ITG

Ive put eibachs on mine and i cant really fault them
the handling is much improved over the sloppy ph1 springs but the ride is also much stiffer. A bit too stiff for my liking but its worth it for those long sweeping corners where the car feels great.

Fred - am i right in thinking you was at BBT rr day?

If so i wanted to have a chat with you about suspension!

Dont suppose you could answer my questions in this post please!

Apex 40mm springs i think as will give the drop and tighten it up.
What are the standard 172 dampers like?
I just want to tighten the bodyroll, lower it 40mm really and not loose the handling or ride quality!

Id like to know too re. springs, now done 32k miles and no reason to think ive any probs with the std dampers but concerned id lower the life of the dampers with apex -40mm as ive already done 32k and nearly 2.5yrs old, dont want to put them on and then shag the dampers and then have to replace them

in answer to both of you, go eibach sportline, good drop, and the best handling improvement you'll get form just changing springs!

  Weeman sucks ****
My H&R's have better damping than the original shocks. The apex were a bit harsher and eibachs fine (although they raised the car!!).

Get H&R's, you'll love them.
