Dell Mini 9 and the likes of......

The misses wants a netbook, it will just be mainly for surfing the net. We had a play with the Samsung NC10 and although nice, the build quality was a bit average and just didn't like the overall feel.

Looking at the following: Mini 9, Acer Aspire one and MSI Wind.

Not sure about the wind due to the newer 6 cell battery not sitting flush (so I have read!)

The dell looks pretty decent....

any user opinions on any of the mentioned ones would be grand!

I have the Advent 4211 (rebranded msi wind) - only downside really is the battery life is w**k - just under two hours WiFi usage. Everything else is great, decent sized keyboard, sharp screen resolution, but I think it's the most pricey.

If it's mainly for surfing the net, then Linux will be fine - the Windows versions tend to be pricer! Happy hunting!

The NC10 seems to be regarded as one of the best atm, but I also am not a fan of the build/finish.

The Lenovo S10 looks to be a cracking machine although it only has a 3 cell battery. Pity as I love the styling and build of Lenovos but still tempted by one, and the trackpad is nicer, and has an expresscard slot.

The Dell mini 9 is also pretty damn good, but for me I reckon I prefer the 10inch screen.

There is a good advent out at the mo in place like Currys, comes with a 6 cell battery, 10 inch screen, 160gig drive etc.

Like the look of the Dell, even though the F buttons are bizzare! Will go look at whats on offer in Currys tomorrow!

  Better than yours. C*nt.
If you think the Samsung is badly built, you're going to be offended by the other offerings. Having had them all on my desk at one point, it was the one I spunked for because it felt best put together...

Really didnt like the silver plastic on the Samsung, had a look in currys today and the Acer was ok - anyone know if the battery sits flush on the acer?

I don't think i'ts badly built, just that I prefer the build of others. Sadly the lack of 6 cell battery on the others outweighs that for me I think so looking likely I'll be picking up a Samsung at some point. Still a good little machine :)

Yeah I guess thats what I meant! The silver trim is not for my liking and the unit I had delivered came with a few marks on the trim from new!!

Think its either the Dell Mini or MSI Wind - tried the Acer in Currys and it was alright but the lid felt a bit flimsy. No where has the other two for testing so its a gamble, but both have good reviews - the wind has the Hard drive space, but thats not a big issue as its just for surfing!

Well I have gone full circle!

I went to Currys yesterday and tried the Acent (re-baged MSI Wind), the Acer and Toshiba. I loved the Colour of the Acer (Blue) but as Mike_182 mentioned, the build of the samsung is actually better! I decided to not even try the dell as the function keys have been moved and the smaller screen looks a bit cramped!

To my great surprise the Samsung actually came in blue (thought it was only in black and white) and its an awesome colour. It is a bit of a finger print magnet but the black was twice as bad!!

I have decided to live with the silver trim and mainly because of battery life! The standard Samsung battery sits nice and flush with the body and after being online for just over 3 hours yesterday, my battery was still well over 50%!

So all in all - I would say its the best all round Netbook - XP runs fast, it boots up very quick and 160gb space is superb considering the size!
