dephaser noise ?

Have a phase 1 172 on 120K. When using full lock there is an odd noise coming from the engine bay.

I have had a closer look and at first thought it was the power steering pump.
As the revs drop with the load on the pas pump it worsens. Sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine, pulley end.

Could this be the dephaser ? Revs drop to about 750rpm on full lock and this is where the noise is worse.

Will try and get a video up later.

I don't think the dephaser changes with the lock.

On idle if it sounds like a 400 year old diesel taxi, it's the dephaser.

i assume the switch should sense the extra load and raises the engine speed accordingly ? what should be the minimum engine speed on idle when under load ?

what is the purpose of this sensor ? I have disconnected it from the loom and cant identify a difference in running. Should it make a difference ?
