dephaser seal

  182
i'am having my belts and dephaser changed next week along with alot of other work, i have already bought all the belts and dephaser from wests renault on here (cheers tom;)).

now do i need to get a new dephaser seal to go behind the pulley? correct me if i'am wrong this does not come with the dephaser pulley? (not with mine anyway).

i think it needs replacing so if it does could someone please let me know what the part number is please:eek:so i can get one from renault.

before the questions arise yes a specialist (total control racing) is doing the belts and have the correct locking tools.

thanks

You are reffering to the inlet camshaft seal, and yes it would be wise to change both cam seals while the belts and pulleys are apart. Use genuine parts only though.

Wouldn't it be better if you let the place that is carrying out the work supply the parts?

Had my belts off because i seemed to have timing skipped :dead:, Bottom end okay but needed exhaust valves replaced, bummer. Friendly mechanic did the job and i asked him about these camseals, if he had'nt forgotten to renew these : "yeah, i did those too" ... I was just checking under the bonnet and guess what ; It's leaking oil from the inlet-cam/dephaser area

He did'nt do them. My god i wish i could do it all myself so i'd know that everything is done RIGHT

Digging up an old thread...

When replacing the dephaser/ exhaust seals and end caps, do you guys smear some clean oil around the outside of the new seals before replacing or just put them back in dry?

Yeah used oil on both my crank seals, cam end caps, cam seals e.t.c they are fitted easier and none of them have dripped a single bit of oil. its fine.
