Diesel Engine Help

  clio 182 black /gold
Hi my brother has a renault master van it has done 123Kish and the engine turns over smokes alot and will not fire up. Has anyone got any ideas what it could be?? In the past when it has started up it just rattled like hell for a little and smoked a bit, but seemed to go ok. Thanks in advanced :)

my first port of call is bleed it up from the filter head and then from the injectors. BUT NEVER EVER EVER CRACK OFF AN INJECTOR ON A HDI IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING !!!! hence the question.
personally i'd try giving it a sniff of easy start while cranking it and see what happens, to start with. don't use too much though or you'll lock it up !

It is a 98 R reg. Im not sure if it a HDI.

just seen this LOL
bleed it up from the filter head, then try the easy start. it may be HDI i can't remember on this year and i can't be arsed to go and get my book from the van. keep it on the safe side and don't touch the injectors
it sounds from your description like either the fuel is running back when its stood or the cold start is not working properly. if it starts on easy start its either of these if it don't its fooked !!
silly question, its got fuel has'nt it? and i take it no ones put petrol in it by mistake- you have no idea how often this happens even with trucks !!
HDI uses a common rail injector system (it looks similar to a car with one rail and injectors leading off it. this runs extremely high pressure.)

yup, take your hand off style LOL

the dci has the injectors at the back..they are electronic and can't be "cracked off"
more likely to be the dti...which has the normal injection..glow plugs would be my 1st check...then the filter and housing.

you can take the pipe off the end of the rail on most...
but im not a reno tech, just a lowly truck fitter LOL

i'd try the easy start and see what happens

didn't mean to be rude...sorry...lol
the pressure in the rail of the dci is too high to play with...also you must not use ether on them ...very harmfull..(no probs with it on the dti tho)

i've used easy start on common rail in the past, but only on engines over 8litres (they can probably take it better, even tho they knock VERY impressively!!)
but i'll agree its not reccomended on common rail, but fine for 'normal' injector pumps
