15bhp and 8 valves is the difference.

those old 8v lumps sound good with the filter off though! pmsl

...i love hire cars. ;)

  ?
Yeh i always drive mine without the filter, since the day i bought it. Cant understand why silly car manufactures would put something that limits the air going into the engine....

JOKE!

the 16v has more vavles witch means the engine moves faster so better excelleration same top end speed just quicker of the mark

I thought it was the other way about, I assumed it was commonly regarded that 8vs were quicker off the mark and although had less power had all their power lower down than 16vs but nothing further up which a 16v does, hence they use all their power lower down and feel quicker at lower speeds although the 16v has more power and more top end speed.

I was told this by a knowledgable guy with a mk2 ph1 1.2 8v btw

  1.2 16v clio
my mate has a 1.2 8v and its ok until it hits a hill then well its dyer. my 1.2 16v seems faster in every situation aswell maybe its just he cant drive or what but just seems that way.

Ive got an 8v and my mates got a 16v both with 3" sportex and like said above the 8v has a much better sound imo with a filter on....Still nothing beats having a 60Bhp hairdryer under the hood !

I used to own a 1.2 16v and drove a few 8v's and the 16v is much better and revs much more freely. I think the performance figures speak for themselves as well......

8v ---- 58bhp ---- 0-60 15 secs ---- top speed 98mph
16v ---- 73bhp ---- 0-60 13 secs ---- top speed 106mph

I found that out trying to keep up with everyone at the Arbroath meet !!!

Used to have a 16v and drive the 8v at work sometimes. They are about the same to 4000rpm then 8v runs out of steam and the 16v keeps pulling, relatively speaking.

  The Beast MK4
Had a 1.2 8v and I used used to think it was quick.

Then I went to a CS meet....

Then I moved to a 172....

Handling is THE most important factor in a 1.2. You can have some great fun!

My 1.2 8v used to be quicker than someone I knew who had a 1.2 16v. My car was modded tho. standard vs standard I think the 1.2 16v is a just a tiny bit quicker but not much in it

Pffft. 1L, 3 Cyl 12v Aygo managed to overtake the Scoob on the meet. Kudos to the driver!

I have driven my mates 1.4 8v and that feels much slower than my 16v tbh.

Sam

Not being funny here, but the 1.2 Clio 16v is one of the best small cars you can buy for the money, and I wouldn't swap my Clio 16v 1.2 for any other 1.2 or 1.4 around. Fact.

So people who knock them just because they are slow and drive 182's or whatever is just ridiculous. At least we have a car to get around in, which is more then what most people can say!! Not also that, but I can't afford to insure anything bigger than a 1.2 anyway coz of my age, so it's an ideal car really and pretty quick as far as 1.2's go.

And apart from the interior and engine and exterior trim, the car is pretty much the same as the bigger boys anyway obv lacking the power as well. :)

For the record it's 75bhp standard and 0-60 in about 13 secs there abouts.

You can't compare them to the RS models its a shopping car that handles well with a few mods. They are by no means quick.

My 1.2 does 0-60 in 10.5 on average at this is with just a K+N with CAF, stripping and shell optimax.

My friends 1.4 8V does 0-60 in 13.5 seconds. It has the same mods as mine and was run on optimax.

Theses times were with me driving both cars. My tyres are slightly better quality (toyo's as opposed to Vreidesteins) but apart from that everything is the same.

Top speed on the 1.2 16v = 112 (speedo)
Top speed on the 1.4 8V = 94 (speedo)

Ive had 112mph out of my car, the climb to 90 is allrite, but thereafter is a push. I have a car which is better than what a lot of people ever get in their lives, and im ungreatfull in the fact that i hate it and want more power. its a nice car and its in super good nik.

Ive stopped driving like a bell end since then though, i wanna keep my licence clean, and stay alive.
