Difference between cup and normal

  Clio 182
Hello all, I'm new here and I have a few questions to ask you all. I have my heart (and my wallet) set on a 182 but I'm getting a little bit confused as to the difference between the 182 Cup and the regular 182 with the cup packs. I know that with the cup packs you get the spoilers and suspension, wider track, better tires etc but what separates this from the cup? The only difference I can spot is that the cup doesn't have climate control!! Please help!!

Amongst other things the cup also lacks the leather alcantara interior, auto windscreen wipers, xenon headlamps, and a few other bits and bobs. This is all to save weight and so make it faster. In the real world however the difference is marginal and its worth going for the FF version with thecup packs for its toys.

Or

Xenon headlights [headlamp wash]
Automatic lights
Heat reflecting windscreen
Rain sensitive wipers
Illuminated vanity mirrors.

Probably more, thats all i can remember atm.

I'd go for a FF 182 with both cup packs, that way you'll get all of the extra creature comforts. And there isn't much difference in terms of Performance, Unlike the difference between a FF 172, and 172 cup.

Oh and welcome to Clio Sport :D

Have you seen a cup against a FF, even a FF 182!

Ok then I am more interested in the suspenstion pack than anything.

How do you go about replicating the wider track if you get one without it?

I believe it's not just the wider track and stronger hub thingies. The whole setup is stiffer IIRC :)

Actually, I'm not sure the 182Cup chassis has a wider track than the base 182 chassis.

Have a look here, might help sort out the confusion....and welcome by the way !

Without being picky, this statement below isnt actually correct, technically, as there was never any leather rear bench in the 182Cup regardless of Recaro option. It is true of the 'full fat' 182 with recaro option though...

Recaro seat pack - Ambla/dinamica black front + Graphic charcoal rear seat (no leather on rear seats if you picked the Reacaro seats (this Recaro seats was only an option on later cars)

if you want a real cup get a 172 cup if you want a 182 i would have a ff 182 with cup packs its a much nicer car

I would of happily but my insurance company who are quite respected int he modified game- flat refuse to insure one.

I am incidently 26 with 5 years NCB...... my last car was a 430bhp Sierra Cosworth, AP's etc and all the usual cossie associated b****cks.
They had no probs insuring me on that and for not much money when you look at the car concerned...

The reason they put it down to is when you compare all accidents with 172/182 cars. The 172 cup stands out above the rest - reason NO ABS.

Great eh..

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Mine's for sale... Immaculate example and very capable motor... With the best performance mods you can do without ruining the driveability...

But make sure you read all Roy's posts about how s**t it is first ;)

Nah be fine if they read his early 'loving' posts.

That said he would have never have said this back then ...

Don't get a 182Cup. 182 with packs all the way IMO.

It's true, but then perhaps it makes my views all the more valid having lived with the car, and dealers, for over two years? Let's not go there because this thread isn't about that :)

go for the FF 182, might as well enjoy the toys as they make no noticable difference in performance.
Remember all the RS Clios are pretty much the same **runs** :)

Yup, go for the FF 182 - mainly for the nicer interior and Xenons :) it annoyed me they never bothered to colour-code the bit where the headlight washers would normally go on 182 Cups.

Oh, and Racing Blue and Liquid Yellow are the best colours (IMO)

Although to be fair I have never heard that complaint against the Trophy, which is also the same in this regard. One thing I would say against the FF is that the rubber steering wheel inserts have been known to fall apart - that is about the only pro I would give to the Cup :)

Be different get a Trophy, less than 480 on the road.

Voted 'evo's' best hot hatch & giant killer by motoring journalists, not cliosport members :quiet:

^^It's just that the ABS argument has been thrashed out many times before. There is no doubt that the Cup does not have ABS. The arguments have always been over how much it matters. Apparently a Cup will spit you into a hedge as soon as it starts raining because it has no ABS or ESP...

Right I'm off to put the kettle on an make some breakfast. Should be 10 pages by lunchtime ;)

I still think people buy a Trophy or 172Cup, think it's amazing but may not have ever driven the other variants, and so may not realise they are probably 98% as fun and capable. Certainly on a normal road being driven within 'safe' limits :)

No doubt the Trophy is the pick of the bunch so long as you like red :D

Who knows- I'm new here- I am just explaining my experiences and what I have found out.

RICHLAWSON- Seems like a resonable quote to me- I need business class 1 mileage though.. but as an indication I will insure my 182 for a bit less than that- I do have 6pts and dont live in the greatest part of Brum.

Cups are more expensive because of the amount of claims. They get binned. Often. Although in my opinion that's down to people buying a Cup (and there are many on here who are like it!!) and thinking that because they own a stonking hot hatch that it turns them into ragnotti himself. When in fact they are clueless boy racers and run out of talent at the first sign of bad weather. lol.
