Divers side rear wheel sits further out than the passenger side.

  RB Clio 182
Hi, i didnt notice this until i fitted spacers, but it looks like my rear drivers wheel is more spaced the passenger side.

Firstly i had my ET37 ultraleggera's fitted and didnt notice it, this is because the arch gap was probably too wide on either side to tell.

But now i have 5mm spacers and 5mm 1.5 degrees negative camber rear shims fitted i can.

Its pretty visually noticeable if you look closely, and when the kids are in the back, i can fit my fingers under the passenger rear arch, but not the drivers :S

All the spacers are the same size and everything is fitted correctly, has anyone else noticed this?

I am also lowered on apex 40mm springs and the drivers side also looks/feels about 5mm lower and definitely sits further out.

Stick some pics up tom

Ill get some pics up tomorrow mate, it was getting dark when id finished, ill definitely get some up tomorrow of the arch gaps and how spaced either side is.

I hope im not driving a cut and shut lol.

Rear axle bushes. There's a thread on here about it.

Complete pig of a job!

I wonder if the wheel company i bought my alloys off sent me the same offset for each alloy, the fronts look fine.

Nice one Dan, i noticed today that my front suspension mounts seem f**ked, i can twist them round and i can hear a slight knocking over un even surfaces, do they sound f**ked too?

  RB Clio 182
I thought all top mounts were the same on mk2 clios?

I am not clue'd up on the suspension side of things at all tbh, but i think they look correct.

Which solid top mounts are the best bang for book?

I have been considering these too but are they worth it over standard?

If yours is to remain a road car, maybe even a few track days, i'd stick with standard. I certainly didn't notice over £100's worth of difference! lol.

Ill stick with the standards lol.

f**k me, i feel like changing every mount/bush on my car now!

Do you think it will be the rear axle bushes then Burt, where one side seems more spaced than the other side? I also get a creaking when i lower the back end down after being jacked up, is this also connected?

Or could this be rear shocks too?

f**k me im going to be skint before ive been paid at this rate lol.

I'm doing some more reading about it and it seems highly unlikely to be the axle bushes, despite the thread I read last time.

Things you should check though; Spacers behind both the rear discs, check the stub axles match on each side.

The spacers are definitely there behind the discs, i made sure of this today while fitting the shims, ill check the stub axles when i get chance mate, thanks.

Its a weird one, same offset wheels (supposedly), same size spacers, same size shims on either side, but one side is more spaced than the other.

Ill get some pics up tomorrow mate.

as said check the spacers are the same and fitted correctly. check both rear wheels are the same offset.

swap the rear wheels over see if it changes the spacing on the rear.

in an old cavalier had a guy in a rover hit me square on the rear wheel managed to push the axle over a good 25mm so could also be a bent axle.

Could it be my drivers side rear shock thats knackered, causing it to sit lower altering the camber on that side giving the impression its sat further out than the other side and obviously lower?

Just a thought but probably wrong lol, i havnt had time to swap the wheels over yet, to check to see if the alloys are all the same ET, hopefully its something simple and something or nothing, it just seems weird.

I have taken some pics but they didnt come out good enough to spot the differences enough to tell.

  Many.
I'd expect some differance side to side, theres a few mm tollerance in the factory build of the car.

Unsure what to suggest on yours though, as long as everything was clean and theres nothing extra pushing anything out, only thing it can be is something bent.

Thanks mate, i guess its just one of those things, im going to get it checked over tomorrow.

a shock wont have any effect on the hight only the springs will.

Oh thanks mate i didnt know that, ill check to see if the springs are ok/seated correctly too, it may just be the way it is, i dont think anything is bent tbh, i think its something simple.

I have sorted my top mounts out easily enough, one of them had worked there way loose somehow, the lad i paid to do it last year probably forgot to nip them up!

Heres a couple of pics of the camber on the rears, both et37 (changed wheels over today to check) both have 5mm spacers and both have 5mm 1.5 neg degree shims (supposedly)!

Me and my mate have had the car to bits again today and we cant see anything out of the ordinary, i have since thought that i might have been sent out a 1 degree shim and a 1.5 degree shim (didnt think to check at the time lol).

Ill have to check this when i get time, as well as getting all my wheels laser aligned and then take it from there.

It might just be one of those things, i dont think anything is bent, everything looks fine.

Any other suggestions? What about the cheap apex springs, if one spring is shorter than the other, could this make a difference?

More neg camber...

Less neg camber..

Am i being fussy here?

You can tell more when you stick you fingers under the arch with a boot full, theres about 5-10mm difference.

just looks like one side has more camber, no? (could just be the pic). You 100% sure the camber shims were orientated the same on both sides?

Yes thats what it seems, they were definitely put on the same at both sides, i double checked this, is it the flat side to the car? The other side is angled to create the camber, this was facing the wheel.

Have you taken it any where to get the geo checked? Sorry if I've missed it.

Not yet mate, i havnt really had time tbh, i will do soon tho.

  RB Clio 182
Does anyone else have any other ideas why my rear passenger wheel seems to stick out about 5mm more(might not but it looks it because of the camber), and seems to have slightly more negative camber than the rear passenger side?

Its really bugging me too much to leave until i get the wheels geo checked :(

Its not a massive amount but its enough for me to notice which will get on my nerves until its sorted.

Heres a few more pics of the difference, although they are s**t angles/poor quality..

Could this be sorted at a wheel alignment specialists?

Cheers.

Could of had a replacement stub axle from a 172cup as these are thinner than 182 stub axles. Only around 5mm or so.

Could the spacers/shims have been machined incorrectly?

Given you have checked everything I would say bent axle, geo will confirm and I wouldn't loose any sleep until you do so mate.

That's what I think. Adding the camber shims has accentuated the problem now though maybe?

Exactly as it brings the tyre closer to the arch which acts as a ref point.

Nothing to worry about really as it can be shimmed to suit unless its got massive toe +\- and also a new axle in the worst case.

Also not meaning to be a buzz kill bits its sitting positive camber which you would think it has been spanked against a kerb square on once in its life.

  RB Clio 182
Thanks to everyone for the info, i will update this thread once i get it geo checked.

Worst case scenario isnt really the end of the world tbh. hopefully it might be a stub axle of something more simple.

They might have mate, they looked really poor if i am honest, the holes looked like they had been knocked through with a hammer and chisel!

Bought off dan@mad off here through ebay.

They both look like they have negative camber to me mate, the pics mate it look worse than it actually tbh, thanks for the help tho, and as you say, a new rear axle is the worst case.
