Do all 172 engines run VVT?

  Nimbus 197, Ph1 172
Am doing the cambelt on my ph1 172 next week (dont worry, have correct tools!). Autodata mentions to lock the VVT pulley on cars with VVT equiped. I have all the other tools required, but not the VVT pulley lock tool. Just wondered if all 172 engines across all phases have VVT?

Hundreds of threads on this.

All F4R's (172/182/197/200) run VVT

You need the pulley lock tool to do it properly.

auotdata also won't tell you to slacken off the vvt pulley and exhaust pulley and to rotate the belt over

No, it doesnt. It mentions the locking tool, but not that. Is this to get the timing spot on? I've no problem doing it, but as we all know, its not just about experience, but also product knowledge.

Had a search for it but to no avail. Will pop out and see an ex-Renault tech with the service manual and have a read.

Thanks Fred, will have a peak. Spoke to an ex-Renault tech who said not to bother locking the VVT pulley. Odd he said that, as worked with him for a year when he came to Nissan and he was spot on. He also re-built the head on my car when he was at Renault, and its still making book power so he must of done something right. Hey ho, borrowing the tooling from Renault to get it done right.
