Dodgy mapper!!?? Claiming 200bhp from small breathing mods

Thanks Chip-mk1

I come from BMW background but have a general understanding of most engines... I can see why Renault put these limiters in place. I know on the M3/M5 they have a simliar protection, so I might leave it in place (as you mentioned cracking block etc...).

I'm not one to thrash a cold engine, but found it irritating this morning when putting my foot to the flooor. We can see Pedro has even 'reduced' his RPM limit so maybe that is the safest safegaurd.... Shows he has more knowledge of these engine than he originally let on ;)

I will probably set them all to 7000RPM or 7200RPM. I doubt I'll hit that often, but it means I wont have to think about it 'limiting' me ever. Cheers for the hlep guys (thanks Pedro, I owe you a beer) :)

Try changing your thermostat first mate!

Takes 2 mins, costs hardly anything, and then you wont be on the cold limiter for so long anyway.

Once you do that, it wont annoy you anymore I suspect mate!

Your current problem is your car not coming upto temp properly, the way to fix that is to make it do so, not making it lift the limiter when its still not warmed up properly.

Its not a mapping fix, its a mechanical one.

Well I only did that for myself, obviously you can look at the coolant temp on the dash, so assume the engine is warmed up, I just know that if I hit the limit at 6500, I won't put my foot down for another 3-5 minutes. Maybe get an oil temp sensor gauge?

I'm still learning. Chip/MWM/RS Tuning/the rest of the specialists know a lot more about the clio maps than I do. I'll get there eventually though

The water temp gauge on the dash is very misleading, the central point that it sits at covers a range of about 80-95 degrees IIRC and the cutover point is at 90, so if the thermostat is allowing too much water past it then the gauge sits at the same point for ages and its then only after you drive around for ages and ages that it finally hits the magic 90 degrees.

I shouldn't really be in that list TBH mate, im sure with where you are placed right now you will know a lot more about the F4R ecu than me very soon, I only have a very small amount of knowledge of it really.
Mike from MWM and the guys he works with on these know a lot more than me about these specific ECUs and helped me out a lot, TBH I have no interest in mapping these cars unless they are on aftermarket really, I just had no choice with the mrs car as she specifically wanted to keep it on the standard management with the RS2, I'd have happily put an Mtech or Omex on it but she wanted to change as little as possible and not have to have an extra ECU stashed away etc or risk lights coming on the dash.

My coolant temp sensor is a bit wánk anyway so I will change the stat and the temp sensor! Did crank sensor (blue newer one) and just didi plugs/air filter.... needs speedo sensor and some other nonsense but I spend and spend on cars. Only just purchased so I will change everything now, so I wont have to do it again for a couple years or more!

Thanks again :)

Yeah the sensors arent great either, and sadly the other thing that commonly gives faults is the loom, which is a bit of a ballache to change :(

Cheers buddy, I'm gonna remove the limiter.

Would you run 95ron or 99ron in this engine? I am on 95ron at the minute - if you all definitely reccomend 99 V Power I will start using that!

Thanks :)

Renault recommend 98 from the factory, I would use at least that personally, especially if you are remapping it and advancing the timing at all.

I keep telling everyone this, no-one listens, it also says it in the fuel flap! There's a better way than just advancing the timing in the map apparently. I'm trying to find the table for it, and think I've got it, I'll know later when I take the car for a spin. Also think I've managed to sort out cold start issues too (know I could just buy an RS tuner, but this way is much more fun! :D)

The biggest way to gain power on these engines is to alter the fuelling, the standard curve is very poor.
Advancing the ignition helps too though, to a point.

Ultimately thats still just advance and fuelling corrections though of course, but yes I know that Mike has found certain temperatures at which the map can be far from optimum, trouble is of course unless you have a climactic chamber and a lot of time on your hands, its hard to do on the rollers, and takes an entire year to do on the road for all conditions, lol
