Dodgy Oil Pressure Gauge

The oil pressure gauge on my ph1 16v is dodgy.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

Looked in the haynes book of horrors but cant find where the sender unit it (as that is what i assume it is)

has this happened to anyone else?

can anyone help with possible causes / fixes and location of sender?

cheers, chris

They all get dodgy at some point... Basicly they are crap!!! The sender unit is on the rear of the engine, right hand side, below the manifold. You can access it from both on top and below the car. The oil pressure warning light sender is on the front of the engine next to the filter, and so is the oil level sender.

Changed mine 3 times, still the same (no pressure), even changed the oil pump, and the gauge... It does have pressure, no problems running at all, no tappety noise from lifters at all.... so im just going to leave it for now...

But good luck!!!

Michael - can you givce more detail on where the sender unit is below the manifold? Or is it really obvious? Cheers

cheers, ill check all the connections first and if that doesnt work get a new sender unit - as its tempromental it should hopefully just be a loose connection.
