Does this Titanium need saving?

Car  Flame 172 (Ph2)
Hey folks,

A friend of mine has a Phase 1 Titanium 172 which has pretty much been standing for up to three years.

The huge plus point is that its only done approx 36,000 miles, MOT'd last year and ran great - but could do with its belts doing, to the point that we're scared of turning her over now.

Would this car be worth saving or do you think its only good for breaking? My friend is unsure of whether he wants to even keep hold of it at this stage anyway...

Thanks in advance folks...

Looks clean enough and low miles seems a shame to break it just for the sake of a belt change.

Get the belts done pump the tyres up job done,
maybe change the steering wheel at a later date.

Low mileage Ph1s are like rocking horse sh*t, rare as f*ck.

I reckon it would be worthwhile saving it but only if its going to be used again, otherwise split it, top notch parts will go for decent money but be warned, parts prices seem to have dropped a lot recently!

Well the consensus is to save her, which I pretty much thought was the case! The wheel isnt worn though, it's got mould on it would ya believe!? As said, been standing for 3 years.

Chatting to him I dont think he wants to go through the hassle of going through the motions to put her right, what dya think it's worth as is?

Fix it or sell it to someone that's going to fix it, too many PH1's are being broken these days.

If that was local to me I would already have that bought. As John said above £750 is a cheap but also fair price.

I'd do the belts, mot and put it up for £2k ish maybe a little more and wait on the right buyer if it were me. Or sell it to Stevo and get it sent up to him ;)

Get it fixed and enjoy it. Mine's worth nothing but as long as I'm enjoying it I'll keep spending money on it.

If he breaks it I'll have the alloy wheels.

But I have to ask why would you buy a phase 1 172 with minimal miles on it and then leave it to gather mould for 3 years just because the belts need doing seems like such a waste of cash because it's value is worth f**k all now. Not meaning to b rude just don't understand people that buy cars and leave them to rot

If you don't want it get me the contact details and I'll add it to my collection.

Give 0.01mph a shout. He'll work out a good price for you to pay him to take it off your hands. Absolutely valueless iirc.

probably needs £1k ISH to MINT the thing- maybe even 11/1200-- after that you have a 2k PH1

Belts, Service, Wheel, Alloys, tyres- poss brakes, etc-

Theres no money in the car profit wise- especially on a W reg- however for rarity & restoration sakes its worth saving especially if its generally low owners & good hist

That would be a good buy for someone to tidy up. Mine was pretty scruffy when I bought it but it's been brilliant. Get it to a specialist on a trailer or flat bed and change the belts then get new tyres and brakes and it should give plenty of years of fun.

if your breaking it, give me a shout i could do with a shead load of things
-Front bumper, wings, skirts
-Interior(seats, door cars etc)
-passenger headlight

Wouldnt bother my arse with the belts. To do the belts its 350-450. Another engine is less than that.

Run it until it dies!

It's a genuine <40k lump then that's a shame. You will pay £400 for a semi decent lump or £200 for a smoking high miler. Deffo worth belts if the person buying it is in it for the love rather than cash.

I'll drop him a pm

Mick

Are you on crack? Why would you waste a perfectly good low mileage engine and risk replacing it with an engine which is still in crap condition. For the sake of £5-600 I'd have the belts, dephaser and water pump done along with a good service

Hey folks, sorry for the lack of replies. We're gonna look to sell it to be restored we think. I'm off on Holiday for a week so wont be on the forum during that time. I'll put a post up with more details of the car along with my friend's contact details in the Cars For Sale section before I go though.

Your friend will need to join and pay before the car can be advertised on here.

(This doesn't mean try and pretend it belongs to you and then moan when it's removed)
