...but im considering...(i mean..seriously considering) selling my mk1 clio v6..

...and getting a late, mint low miler 106 gti..and turning it into a bit of a *****.

I have spoken to GMC who are near to me...and have quoted £5100 for an intercooled rotrex supercharger conversion fully fitted inc vat, would also need pug sport paddle clutch, LSD, quaiffe gears in the std gearbox housing would help..and 4 pot brakes conversion..

i think all including the decent gti to start with could see over 240 at the wheels for circa 15k...

i know this would be a complete money loss..but..as special as the vee is..its mediocre performance doesnt justify its stupid petrol consumption and high insurance (for a 21 year old) and i know from experience that s/c gti's/vts's are extremely fast!

opinions,..

perfect height..rims..colour choice..imagine that..running 240 at the wheels!

Yeah I dig your issue with the V6 performance but if you really want a mega step up and have that much money to spend you can get some decent unmodified power for that budget. I can't see the insurance on a Jap turbo saloon being more than a 106 modded to that sort of power level? Plus realistically given how you will drive it what sort of fuel consumption and reliability would you get from a 240whp 106? No better than the Jap turbo saloon?

Combine that with the image, status and resale value...

A watse of 15k if you ask me. The resale value would be roughly the same as a standard one (if you could find a buyer). I'd like to know what line of work you're in a 21 to be able to invest 15k in a 106 GTI project.

As said above, why not go for something like a Integra Type-R DC2? Regarded the best front wheeler ever made... and not just by Evo mag. And you'd save circa £8k in the process.

pecan...

only 7k left on the vee to pay...so if i got maybe 11-12k for it...thats 5k in my hand..i have 5k saved...wouldnt use all of that maybe 2k..so just a 7k bank loan would see the gti perfect

i know the resale value is the only thing off putting me..i have driven 2 P1's now...awesome cars..but older and higher milage than my vee..and ive heard the P1 engine is pretty soft compared to other scooby's

plus..its just a scooby at the end of the day..thats why i bought the vee..its different..just..not that fast/easy to drive quick

It just seems to me you're putting yourself in major debt for no good reason, and at our age that ain't good as far as I'm concerned. Just see what money you have after you sell the V6 and get a car which is good and that you can afford.

lol..believe me mate..i dont do debt at all..some of my mates are over 20k in debt on cars..i think its shocking..what i owe on the vee is all i owe.. and im safe in the knowledge that if things ever went tits up..the car nearly covers double the loan amount..so no negative equity either..

thats whats putting me off the s/c idea..its all lost money and be lucky to see 6-7k in return :(

my dad has an M3..e46 coupe..

it does nothing for me...am i strange? just looks like a big old mans 3 series coupe... :S

Sounds good in theory. Point to consider, when moddin a car it always developes more problems. Tits or wheels it will give you problems.
If your going to drop the b****cks off the car, you may need to give it constant attention (you probably won't mind to start with. Bit like spending so much money on fuel, you never mind to start with but it gets tiring).

But after that litlle thought, get a yellow one, put a black bonnet on it, then drop the b****cks of it... now that would be mint!!!

15K for a second hand car...S reg? you can get a type R on a newer plate m8, or if you can stretch it to a VW like a golf gti, anyway as it has been said think of the resale value, the type R and VW will hold their value but at the end of the day u've got the 15K so u do whatever u like ;)

yeah its old but i still love to watch it,

i have seen that car actually being rolling roaded at GMC..what a f**king noise it makes!!

standing 15 feet behind the car could feel the exhaust gasses on your jeans!

pecan..that was meant as in...debt..as in...loan after loan after loan..a 7k loan is nothing on a car..how many under 25 year olds can actually pay off a car outright..

when i get a mortgage..i wont class that as debt..its part of life..house..car..and pension are the 3 main things people spend wages on that are deemed necessary in my opinion..

now going out getting a whacking £2000 loan for something like a TV or holiday..i'd class as debt :)

  172 Cup
I know what you're saying but you're also saying that a 7k loan isn't a lot for a car. Well everything is relative, sure it wouldn't be much of a loan for something like a brand new Golf GTI, but you're talking about a 2nd hand 106 for christ sakes. That's like ordering a £5000 TV. lol

  An orange one
agreed..point taken...

which is why thats my only doubt about doing it..

i know the vee will clear the loan as said..the 106..probably wouldnt...= negative equity = bad situation to be in!

why didnt renault give the vee 300bhp...im sick of being beaten by small turbo'd hatches :(:(

  172 Cup
Yes, but those guys are sad little men with no sense when it comes to money.

Sure they'll gain respect on the road when they beat you in your V6, but when you talk to them and they tell you how much cash it took to get it to that level they'll lose that respect and get laughed at in the process.

Then you can sleep easy at night knowing that your V6 is going to fetch more than £50 when you chose to sell it. At our age, we need to start thinking about houses and not heavily modified cars.

If I had £15k to blow on a car I definitely wouldn't spend it on doing up a 106, like the man said the Golf GTI or Honda Civic Type R are the way to go, then you can mod them later if you feel the need. With the new Type R on the way you should be able to pick up a bargain if you wait a bit too. At the end of the day, no matter how much you mod the Peugeot, its still a Peugeot... I know people on here love their French cars, but honestly, there not all that great. Buy German or Japanese mate for sure.

Good point!

The point of the French hot hatches is that they're fast and fun to drive and come at half the price of the German or Jap equivilant.. Quotes like that won't score you many points on this forum mate.

lmao..you have my opinions exactly dude

situation 1...my mate got a 54 plate punto..(the whole thing on finance..brand new) and then went on to fit exhaust, wheels, lowering etc..not even one year later..ecosse had a gold 306 gti-6 with a T-16 engine conversion..for sale..£8k...now..the problem was..he wanted the car, but couldnt sell the punto due to outstanding finance..im sure at the time he owed £5k on it..

so..he got a bank loan for £4k...paid half the 306..couldnt think of a way to get rid of the punto..so extended the bank loan to cover the 306..so..thats an £8k loan plus £5k on the punto..he's got the punto in a lock up, still paying finance..off the road basically wasting away (bearing in mind this is a 54 plate with 9000 miles) the 306 is a R plate with 100k on the car..he has since needed to spend money on paddle clutches...other maintenance problems and stuff and is well into his overdraft just to top it all off...

its just crazy..he has nothing to show for his mega debt! :(:(

Sorry, but what a f**king loser. On a slightly more contructive note - can't he change the Punto back to standard and sell it?

Surely tho, if you think the same way I do, you wouldn't be seriously considering this whole 106 GTi thing?

Why not buy a Saxo which already has the superchrager kit on it there a few ben odne I've seen them up for £5~6k before now.

15k for a 240bhp 106......Aint worth a carrot if you come to sell it though.I got 380BHP worth of S4 Avant for a lot cheaper if your interested..;) .When your sat in your 15k 106,probably stripped to death of any creature comforts, ride that shakes the nuts out of your poo and you watch the guy in the M3 or S4 pulling away with ease with the air con on,no road noise,no worry of bits dropping off,you will soon realise that 15k for a 106 is a little extreme mate.

Go for something thats already got the performance that LOOKS like 15k.

However,if you do decide to go down the route of the 106,then best of luck mate and post up some pics of the transformation..:)

I have to agree with this man.Get a car thats already fast with 4wd.Whats it going to be like in a couple of months with summer over and all that power to put down on damp roads.
Very frustrating me thinks.
