Down on horse power?

  Monaro VXR/Cupra TDi
Just bought myself an 05' 182 Cup.

My friend owns an 06' Fiesta ST (K&N induction kit + cat back exhaust). Suspect he's good for circa 155 bhp with the mods.

Just gone up against him. To be honest I had to nail it as hard as I could to keep up. We both had equal starts. I suspect my Clio is down on it's power. I had an Integra Type-R beforehand. Very similar bhp per tonne and horse power figure. The Clio doesn't feel anything like the Integra at all in it's acceleration.

This is worrying to say the least!

Anybody experience the same in their Clio 182 Cup?

Alot of cars dont even have the bhp the factory claims they have.
For instance most 172/182's only get about 160-166bhp on the rollers.
You gotta do engine mods and then possibly remap to up the power, dont expect huge gains tho.

Bear in mind The Seer, that the power doesnt really come in til 4500-5000rpm, then nail it to the red line 7300rpm

Just under 7000rpm is more realistic, as the power drops off quite quickly after that, although, you would be in the sweet spot when changing up to the next gear.

Get used to it, whack some v-power or BP ultimate in it for a few tanks, then try again.

Goodbye Fiesta.;)

Same story about falsified hp figures by TVR also, but much more so! Thanks for your replies. I've started using V-Power in the Clio. Yeah will probably take a tank or so before it adjusts to the benefit of the extra octane.

Strange how you had a Integra but couldnt keep up with a tuned up Fiesta ST which would still be well short of the Tegs power..

As above you really have to rag the hell out of it to get it to move.

You have to redline to beat any car that has a bit of pace.

Id say you should be at least a car length a head to 80mph if you redline in each gear.

Those ST's are not far behind a 182 but you should def beat it.

  RenaultSport 172.
all depends on the way you drive too....

if you drive like a pansey your not going to win! :p aha

The ST delivers good power low down in the rev range and picks really quickly, as the Clio's it's 5500rpm+.

So if he's in front, he can catch you out.

My experiences with my 172 Vs ST Fiesta, the Clio was 2 car lengths in front around 80mph.

Yes that could be it. We had a rolling start 20 mph. As you say the ST does develop it's power lower down. The 182 is definatley slugish before 5K rpm. Oddly my Integra wasn't as slugish before it's V-Tech point. Probably down to a short 1st and 2nd gear.

20 mph.... 1st gear ? ;-) If you were in second you were off cam. Catch him surprise next time. lol.
