downpipe - manifold fitting kit problems

  Renault Clio Mk1 1.4RT
Ok, im replacing my downpipe and bought a new downpipe and fitting kit.

How the hell does this all go together? I realise the gasket is for the cat end, and that the brillopad type thing sits inside the downpipe inlet.

Do i just put the springs between the downpipe and manifold, then thread two more larger bolts inside them and tighten them up till i get a seal? seems a very odd setup.

That gasket would have to go in the downpipe>cat joint your right.

I hope for your sake that those bolts are not that short when they arrive, they won't work.

The "brillo" goes sits on the manifold flange and forms a kind of gasket for the manifold>downpipe.
The order for the bolts is normally: Bolt, Some kind of washer, Manifold flange, Downpipe flange, optional washer, spring, washer, nut.

Yeah, god knows why they would supply bolts that are half an inch shorter than the bloody springs. Ill just pop into town tomorrow and source some longer bolts, its not that much of a problem hopefully.

it has to be the wierdest setup ever though - why do renault use this method? Hey though, big big thanks for the reply :D

I have been supplied this already. I reckon the supplied bolts are for the cat/downpipe connection and they didnt bother with the manifold/downpipe ones?
