Drive shaft & rear hub temperatures

No sure if it's actually called a hub on the rear or a stub axle? Correct my terminology if you know.

But, how hot do these two parts get ? ?

Looking very worn on my car and wanted to give them a quick lick of black paint before I finish off putting the car back together.

What I wanted to know though, is whether general Hammerite paint will be OK ? Or whether I'll need high temp stuff like I would for the calipers ?

Cheers

  A special one.
Yes mate it will be fine.

I've got Hammerite on my front calipers which has been fine.

You're right in calling it a stub axle and Hamerite will just flake off from experience around braking components, VHT takes a better bite too when prepped right. It will be fine on the shafts and such like but don't go painting the bearing face on the stub axle, its meant to be plane metal.

I thought that maybe because the rear disc/bearing doesn't actually touch this stub axle that it wouldn't get too hot?

What do you mean by the bearing face? I don't quite follow sorry

Hammerite silver goes gold when it gets bloody hot. I have it on my discs and calipers.

Should have called it silver gold then lol

You will be alright to paint the caliper carrier in hamerite, it will just fall off the actual stub axle itself but who's going to see ;).

The bearing face is the part that has the spacer and the nut screwed on the end, emery it up if its showing signs of water ingress.

All done now cheers chaps. Cleaned up the shaft too or the bearing face, whatever the correct name for it is.

New discs/bearings too so shouldn't be any failures any time soon I hope.
