Drop in 197 value

  Nothing at the mo :(
My 200 is at Renault Wigan on the forecourt for 11500 apparently! They are making a loss on that because that's less than what they bought it for from me

maybe they selling it cheap cause they was thinking

"wtf the bloke who just traded this in just got a fiat!! this car must be fked!!"

Prices of Standard 197's have been pisch for a while- I just think some owners who own standard 197's have been deluded.....

now the later models have followed suit.....

Anything without recaros or A/C - forget it- people suddenly got wise with their money-

I would give you a better trade price than that- depending on Spec ;)

How many times have me and Danny moaned about people not speccing cars.

Anytime I looked at 197's Recaros were on my list of must haves. 197's with Recaros sell themeselves imo. Yet people keep saying spec isn't important, yet when you look at 197's with silver standard wheels you think shat spec, i'll pay £500 or £1k more and get some decent spec. It's fact. Although maybe it's just me.

Nope your right & the same rules apply for the 200---especially a 200 Cup-

But you pay correspondingly less when buying from new. The problem is people pricing standard cars too high, they have to be priced accordingly. If you spec'd a 197 with recaro's and xenon's, I don't believe you'd get that money back when selling. You'd get more than a standard car, but not the same amount as you'd initially paid.

And there are going to be a lot of standard 200cups hitting the market in 2yrs. Bargain time.

The 225/R26's are just as cheap aswell! Insane...

PSJ.
Stop signing your f**king name! We can see your name on the left, everytime. Jesus wept!

225's are cheap as they are getting on now, and superceded by a new model.

Kind of contradictory there mate. It will be easier to sell for a decent price, standard cars can't sell for ny sort of premium. I know a specced car isn't going to make 4k over a standard one but there's more chance of selling it for what it's really worth.

If you spend 3k on options, you won't be able to sell for 3k more than a standard car after 3yrs. It'll be easier to sell.

I'd say a 197 with recaros and another small option will go for 1k over a standard one depending on mileage. But you've had the pleasure of using the options aswell and like you say come sale time or even trade in time it's more appealing.

  Turbos.
The fact it's been facelifted doesn't help. I'd sit on the 197 for a bit, money wise makes the most sense.

Good luck either way!

Appreciate the 200 is a better car, from what Evo says, but personally i think the 200 looks too ugly to consider. I'd rather have a well specced 197 and play with the suspension myself.

You get 'used' to the looks, but the front is horrendous. Non-car people seem to like them, odd.

I got £9200 for my 07 plate, 4 owner, 37k R27 in March - looks like I moved it at the right time!

Paid £11k for it on 18k miles, and kept it 12 months. I don't mind taking that small hit, given the mileage I did.

Also, if you think it's bad now, wait until it drops out of warranty in 2011!!!

My R26 is similar. I paid £11400 for it, and now it's possibly worth about £9000 6 months later, but I have done 15k miles in it. I'd suspect if I don't lump miles on it now, then when I come to sell in Mar/Apr 2011, given how mint it will be, I won't lose much more on it... fingers crossed anyway!

At least I didn't pay £20k for it new!

Not really tbh, sell it privatley, although saying that if the ones already for sale are anything to go by you arent looking at much more than £9k (ish)

You can sell it privatley if the finance company agree to it and the balance is settled on the sale, suppose its just finding a buyer that will agree to it, some are wary, personally aslong as i get receipt of settlement it doesnt bother me

I'd be very careful doing this, i did it earlier in the year, buyer paid off the finance and took the car away, 3 months later the finance company came back and said the card they paid on was stolen! turns out they sold the car on stupidly cheap within a week! I've been lucky and managed to get it sorted (with a small solicitors bill!) but aparantly there's lots of it going on, the guy that did mine has done hundreds by all accounts!

iirc Renault offered me 10k for my mint 197 (8k milage) 9 months old! Paid £14,000!

  197 cup
LOL i seem to have proded a hornets nest with a big stick here lol. see my 197 is just a pure cup no added spec although i wish now that i had waited for one with recaros but feck it. the main reason y i want to get the 197 to feck is because its just been problem after problem. infact itll be going back again on monday for another warranty claim. Infact maybe some1 could giv me some advice when the car is running and if u stand outside the car every 9-11 seconds u can hear a kinda puffing noise coming from the left side of the exhaust pain in the ass if u ask me and also in the morning i have to turn the engine on and leave the car ticking overe for about 4 minutes before i can get it into gear. renault have already claimed twice to have fixed this problem. and also can any1 tell me if corrosion on 3 of my alloys will be covered under the warranty. cheers lads as much help as possible would be appreciated to get it all fixed

My 'Full house cup' sold in a week on AT.
For a lot more than i paid for it ;)
But then again i bought it at the 'right price'.

Plus it was looking rather tidy ;)

Presentation makes a huge difference to prices I think. I got top dollar for my R27, at the time.

This is my problem took my 197 cup 08 plate with 19000 on the clock to trade it in for a impreza and to my shock and horror i was informed that the best price i could get in a trade in was 8000 SHOCKER. Any 1 else found that the 197 has droped so much in value. I paid 12000 for the car

Just looked at book price-- August was 8.7k ish, in the last 6 months they have dropped ~ £1400 which is circa £250 a month-

If they are looking at listing for November then 8k is bang on the money im afraid- maybe 8250 @ a push- the only way is down...

im sorry to say I cannot find the book price on the R26- ive gone through every poxy megane page 3 times-

However pound for pound it is the same-- Early spring a LY on a 57 commanded around 12k, now its hitting 1025-10k region-
net loss ~£16/1700

White & yellow are holding on best, black blue & silver are struggling seemingly throughout the entire range 182, + 197 & R27 + R26-

Im sure you know how to sell a car & will get max value for it- which minimises the net loss, however if your buying a year old car / 2yr old car & keeping it for 12-24 months you will inevitably face a fair chunk of depreciation within that time period

Steve

Thanks Steve.

Yeah it seems so depreciation wise. I really should have paid a bit more for a white one with Lux pack. Oh well, you live and learn!

I have a few friends who buy cars from various manufacturers on 'friends and family' who face no depreciation - must be great!

I would have thought in the R26/27 case that the rarer colours would hold a bit of a premium. Quite shocked to learn that Ly was the most popular R27 colour even though it was ID paint!

..say I bought a GW 197cup with speedlines, recaros for roughly £9k..

Do u think it would drop alot over the next year? (10k milage over a year)

(itchy feet FTL!! Lol)

Would depend on it's mileage, and how much you'll be putting on. But youd need to punt it on before all the lease 200's hit the used Market.

Sorry I did a sneaky edit.. Prob be around 10k over the year.

I assume it would kinda be the same story for the ph2 225's..?

It would be more desirable than a 'normal' 197. That's why i got one, it will always be easier to shift if need be. This time last year, GW 197's were 11k+! I'll either keep mine until this Renault pcp deal on the 200's runs out, or run it into the ground.

No cars are really selling at the mo, weather peeps don't have the money, were thinking about the 'spending cuts' or Christmas i dont know. Most mainstream cars are affected

225's aren't as cheap to run, and (going of a few owned on here) seem to develop issues when they get a bit older.
Undoubted you'd lose more than £1500max over 12 months, but worth checking with the guys on here in car sales.

Personally I think the 197cup would be alot more of a riot to drive :D

Can't stop looking at the GW 197cups ATM.. Doesn't help the better half is wanting one! :)
