Dum dum dum, tish....

Another one bites the dust, duh duh dum dum dum tish, another one bites the dust.. :dapprove:

Got to work fine this morning, no dramas in the snow or ice, pulled into the carpark at work, which is down a slope, which was like an ice rink!

Applied the brakes, which locked, used as much engine braking as i could for the bend at the bottom of the hill, turned to go round the corner, carried on going straight.

BASH!

Straight into the curb :( The wheel is now sticking out of the arch at a funny angle, it looks like its snapped the suspension arm, the wing has cracked (well they are only plastic), i dont know what other damage it may have done, as we cant move it yet! Loads of people from work came out to help try and push it somewhere a bit safer, but no one could get any grip on the ice/snow. So its sat at the bottom of the slope all sorry for itself now.

Just waiting for the pics to come through to my email, then i'll post them up.

Im going to claim on the companies insurance, as the carpark should have been gritted. The maintenance people were called at 6.30 this morning and didnt turn up till 9.30. Had they have been and gritted/cleared the carpark then i might not have a broken car!

4 other people slid into the same curb this morning! Luckily none of them broke their car though. One guy slid into the barrier, then straight under it, and down the hill. I think he broke his windscreen!

Why did i even get out of bed this morning!:dapprove: :(

yeah its a cup. but i dont think that had much to do with it to be honest. 4 other people did the same before i got to work. its only cause the cup was lower than their cars it smashed the wishbone.

my dads just come and moved it for me, and says its just the wishbone and ball joint that needs replacing to make it moveable. i'll then get it into renault and have the chasis looked at to make sure it hasnt bent it where its pulled the suspension out.

It needs a new wing, and the wheel looks like its dented rather than just scuffed.

Hopefully work will be paying for all of this, as the carpark was supposed to be cleared and gritted at 6.30 this morning, but is only now been done!

I wasnt even on the brakes at the time, i just turned to go round the corner, at about 10mph if not less, and it just carried on going straight into the curb.

My mum has now gone to hospital to get checked out as she bashed her head and her neck has now gone really stiff.

wishbone and ball joint is a relativley easy job to do mate.I very much doubt U have done any chasis damage. and if u can fit the wishbone etc im sure u can fit a wing, still a couple hundred quid though

  don't
cup, i thought you had a bm

anyway, bad news, it's sooo dangerous at the moment, I think you may struggle with the work thing, they may have it down as if anything happens in the car park full stop, they wont be held responsible, find out asap though before you start going to expensive main dealers for jobs that could be done somewhere else

i.e. if a garage can replace suspension bits rather than renault, then do that, otherwise you may well end up with a massive bill if you get nowhere with work

The guidence i can find on the carpark states it has to be in safe conditions etc, you know the usualy bullshit. As i said, i was about the 4th car to slide into that curb this morning so the car park clearly wasnt safe to be used.

Since then, the people have come and cleared some snow and ice to make it a bit safer for people to use.

My car is just abandoned in the carpark at the moment, as we couldnt move it anywhere as the wheel is jammed in the arch.

I called renault, and a new wishbone is £58.08 and that includes the ball joint, which my dad can fit if need be, but they need to order it in. A new wing will cost £61.04 but thats unsprayed, so that will be at least another £100 on top.

I've emailed the claims department at work to see what action i need to take next, as i really dont want to involve my insurance at the moment due to excess and losing my NCB.

It needs putting on a flat bed and taking to a garage.

Its just a big pain in the arse.

Here is a pic of the wheel sticking out. The drivers side wheel is pointing straight. You can see the crack in the wing too.

I did take some pics of behind the wheel, but as i couldnt see what i was taking pics of, it doesnt show anything. As i have said though, the wishbone, balljoint has bust, and the drive shaft has popped out. The wheel is buckled too. Im hoping that its done more damage than i can see, so they write it off.

dan go to the bodycentre on concorde road there the only renault approved body shop in the city for the respray (01603 410777 )
they did a top job of mine when i got crashed into earlyer on this year the car looked like it just been drivin out off the show room when theyed finished it

and try that renault brakers yard up at porringland for the spares he had a couple off cups in last time i was getting a fog lamp

I've spoken to my insurers and the car is being picked up tomorrow at some point. Its being taken to Nationwide crash repair centre as thats who the insurance use. Last time i heard its who the local renault dealers use as well.

Claiming from work is going to be a long drawn out process too, as i am having to get the union people involved as the carpark is used at the owners risk. But the carpark was a health and saftey risk in the state it was in, and by the time i got there it should have been closed off, as 4 more people already hit that curb.

I'll get my insurance company to take them to court if needs be. And i will be going for compensation too, as this is making me loose my NCB, plus putting an accident/repair on the HPI check for the car, and my insurance on it next year will be nearly double what im paying at the moment, because of it.

So its costing me a lot of money, and if i cant get work to pay for it, i might have to get rid of the car until my insurance comes down again, as i dont fancy paying £1400 for insurance!

It's a shame no one from your work decided to stand further up the road before the carpark and warn everybody after it had happened to cars already.

Same thing happened to me driving round into my estate last year in the snow, only going about 10mph and when i came to the bend with the wheels on full lock to the left i just went straight on and actually felt as though i picked up speed till i rattled right into a raised kerb at someones drive!
Damage was'nt as bad as yours though, just a snapped bolt at the ball joint which made the whole wheel sit at a funny angle and hit along the wheel arch!

God really feel for you, similar thing happened to me a couple of months back, but i was on a hill of mud, as soon as i got in the car it slid down straight into the car in front of me, so bloody annoying!

Hope it all gets sorted

the union should be able to sort you out pretty good mate same has happed where i work except its other cars that get hit and when our union leader said if it aint sorted we aint coming to work it was sorted out and damage paid for pretty sharpish. car park is always gritted at the first sighn of ice now. hope your union is as good as ours mate

good luck and hope its sorted soon

Well i work for the government, so we have one of the best unions you can get!

They picked it up today, and im just waiting to hear from the garage to see what damage has been done, and how much it is going to cost to fix. and when i will get my courtesy car.

I will be going for compensation from work too, as its costing me £450 excess, and its going to double my insurance next year, and it wont drop for at least 2 years again now. So im going to see if i can get some compensation to pay for the extra costs i will incur.
