Dump valve like sound when dipping clutch from high rpm!?

  ClioSport 172 Cup
As weird as this sounds i get that very sound when i dip the clutch to change gear from around 7000rpm! Does anyone know what the hell the sound is?? Its like that chirping dump valve sound you hear on race or rally cars, it does sound almost as if i have a miniature dump valve under the bonnet! lol. Something even more strange is i don`t always get it, i think it gets better as the engine warms up if i drive longer distances. The sound happens as soon as i dip the clutch from high rpms but it only happens when i`m on the move!

lol, ok ok take the pee! I am actually being serious. Its not really loud, but you can hear it. It sounds like something still spooling after i dip the clutch. I thought maybe its clutch or release bearing related, but i dunno! :S.

mine does this too. something to do with the air feed and the acoustic vlave thing or whatever its called i believe

The F4R must be one crap built engine then. I had a 91 Gti Suzuki swift for 2 years , it had done 100k and that thing took 8000rpm daily! Your telling me that engine was stronger than this 2 litre renault engine? My renault has only done 67k.:S

they NEED revving.. Once warmed up that is (!)

Far too many people out there drive a sporty car and do'nt even come near/on/over the red every now + then.. :nono: Cleans stuff up aswell in there !

Can't help you with the noise , sorry..

I agree with you Franx. + As long as an engine is maintained and it is in good working order taking it to the redline and even over will do no harm at all.

you know.. since I lost my rear seats, my 5k kick is alot more intense, and now, as soon as I hit 5k, it makes a whistling sound all the way upto 7k rpm, not sure what it is doing it, rentec said my slightly leaking seal in the exhaust may whistle, but this actually.. is quite inspiring to drive faster lol I like it

not saying it is brilliant just strange as I did not notice this prior to rear seat/boot strip removal.

no dv sounds from mine tho

Hi, my Ph1 does the same. Today I took it to a garage and I was told that it is probably the bearing of the cambelt tensioner that needs to be replaced. And because there is a chance that it`s get stuck and break the cambelt aswell, he advised me not to drive it anymore before it`s fixed:( Don`t realy know what to do at the moment...

Take it too another garage for a second opinion OR even better a specialist or maybe dealer

The dealer in my town realy sucks and the nearest specialist is at least 40km away. But I will definitely take it somewere for an second opinion.

Has anyone here with that noise taken it to a garage?

i'm no expert, but i've read buying guides saying a whistling on dipping the clutch is the release bearing starting to wave goodbye. prob a lot cheaper than ur belts tho! if it was the belts it wouldn't only happen when the clutch was used.

mine whistles between 6000rpm and the shift light coming on think its the standard induction system i think it sounds good and its a good way of knowing audibly when to change gear.

lol, We aren`t talking about whistling from the induction. We are talking about a strange sound when the clutch is dipped from high rpms. I`m hoping its just release bearing related!

hitting 7k rpm when cold isnt a good idea really. But anyway.. can you get a video of it? Does it only do it when the clutch goes in or can you rev up the engine and let it rev down and still produce the noise. If the noise still occurs it will point to belt/tensioners?....have you had these changed yet? If it only occurs with clutch it could still be belts/tensioners as the revs drop alot quicker when the clutch is engaged.

How do you manage to get to 6,000rpm on Guernsey? Surely you'd be in the English Channel by 4k?
