Easy removal of a sub

  Storm Grey 200
Hi, im getting a sub and want to secure it properly so that it doesnt kill me. To do i am going to bolt it to the floor. However i use my car for transporting big things like guitar cabs and drum kits which will require the sub to be taken out. SO is there anyway i can secure my sub down but remove it easily?

For example bolting a mounting plate of MDF to the floor and then putting clamps/clips on the mdf which will clip the sub in. Anyone done something like this?

yea, that velcro will be a b**ch to remove if someone breaks into your clio lol..

id just bolt it down in a position so you can still get your stuff in.

if you can just unclip it then some thief will just unclip it too or just pull it so your clips break.

just bolt it to the floor with big washers

Get a slab of MDF the size of the boot floor and cut it to shape (can draw round the carpet if that helps).

Then cut it down the middle so you have a left hand side and a right hand side of the boot. This means it's easy to put in and take out.

Screw/bolt the sub box to one side (assuming it's not maaaassive lol) then you can put both slabs into the boot and easily lift them out again when necessary.

To secure the slabs together, just take an offcut of MDF that's wide enough and long enough to cover the middle 'crack' and then drill and screw it into place over the gap. This then turns two bits of MDF into one bit of MDF, meaning it's more secure and won't slide around so much.

To remove it when you need to, just unscrew the middle bit, lift the slab out without the sub on it, undo all the sub/amp connections, and lift out the slab with the sub box on it. Can be done in 10 minutes!

I would also perhaps think about putting a strip of industrial velcro under each slab as that will then stop it 'jumping' when you go up/down small bumps in the road.

velcro works perfect for mine :)

Ditto, even when I'm driving like an absolute c**t it doesn't budge :D
And if you crash into something solid...?

A box of tissues on the rear shelf weighs as much as a housebrick in a 30mph crash iirc, so I wouldn't like to imagine 30kg of sub and box breaking through the rear seats and flying towards my head at 30mph, weighing I can't even imagine what...

Knocked a false floor up for mine, bit of a pig to get out as its in one piece but its not too bad now i've got the knack.

Velcro is all good and well but it you hit anything properly then theres no way in hell its going to hold it down.

Want something I can remove without tools though tbh, was thinking of some form of clip but haven't really found anything. Its no biggie now, i've worked out how to get it in and out easily the first few times was fun though .
