Looking around I have decided that this is prob the best non coilover kit to go for, also have Corby motorsport top mounts coming! Anybody been on the ring with this setup? Going in may - June and am planning a uk trackday soon, any feed back would be good I.e setup suggestions... Cheers

I presume your 182 is not cup suspensioned then?

Good set up from all accounts :)

How much drop ? Also if you don't mind me asking, how much for the whole lot including top mounts ?

It's a 30mm drop, top mounts are £80 shocks £260 and and springs are £150, could of bought low end coilovers for that excluding the mounts but the only coilovers I would go for would be bilstein and they are £800 + so not bad really!!

Sounds spot on pal, I'm tempted to be a copy lol 30mm sounds perfect, I won't be able to get coilovers for a while as other parts are priority such as new tires, how much difference do top mounts make as they do bump the price up quite a bit :/ boob question here but do you have top mounts for the rears ?

I have this setup, imo it sits perfectly.

I have camber correction bolts on too and run the dampers in a fast road setup:

1 1/4 (1.25) turns from softest at the front
1 3/4 (1.75) turns from softest at the rear

Turn in is quicker and there's more feel, recommended. I replaced the top mounts when these were fitted as a matter of course, the cars nearly 9 years old after all.

Top mounts will tighten up the front end alot and stop the clunking all full lock (common 172 - 182) they use them on the Clio trophy track cars so gotta be good!? http://www.corbymotorsport.com/renault-c-2736_1004_986_995.html

Rears will be fine as they are. Possibly rear strut brace in future!

Nice one mate!

I bought the Konis second hand, one of the rears failed after a year (not burst just collapsed due to a clip failing in a groove), a bit of a ballache but I have a spare rear now at least.

Another noob question, apart from height not being adjustable are there any downsides to this set up and also is this definatley better than any other coilover set up for the same money ?

Height, preload can't be adjusted but on the plus side at least the damping adjustment is in a sensible place unlike alot of coilover setups I have seen where it is on the side of the body for all the grime and corrosion to get!!

Im only going on alot of good feedback from others that have fitted this combo and it sounds like the best without spending loads on coilovers!

The damping is easy to adjust, camber correction is not built in but is easily achieved with camber bolts.

Both Koni and Eibach are reputable brands with a good support network and very good heritage. Coilovers were never even considered for my car, to me they would only offer the option for lowering further which I wouldn't have used anyway.

If you run the konis fairly soft the ride aint bad at all either

The way money is at the moment for me it would be easier to buy the springs and fit them first, how much difference would I see from the springs alone ? Then would you get dampers or top mounts secondly ?

Rear shocks on clios (Renaults) aren't to clever, replaced alot working at renault - one of mine has just popped, hence buying Konis! Up to you, they will improve it!

I think the price you have seen are for each item, not a pair. So in affect you've priced up one front shock and one rear shock:(

Yep ordered two more, haha! Shopping while under the influence is a bad move ah well still cheaper than bilstiens!! Cheers for pointing that out mate, dampers - they should write damper!! Doh :S

  1.2 & 182
Im also looking at this set up but going with prolines, I have a 182 with cup pack suspension (60mm spacing) Am I right in thinking the Koni sports will fit. Is it just the 182 cup (54mm spacing) which has fewer suspension options?

  Westy. MX5
Konis- Yes Camber bolts- Yes Sportlines -No, go for the Prolines, especially in you are going on track.

  Westy. MX5
The Sportlines will lower your car more than the Prolines and will have a softer ride, as yours is heavier than the Cup 172/182, Are you sure that is what you want on track.

172 cups were lighter, I owned a 182 with a cup pack it's the same, different colour wheels, lip spoiler, different suspension, if the sportlines are softer than prolines thats a bonus, I can stiffen it up with the dampers..

  Westy. MX5
Just giving you something to mull over. Hopefully you'll be changing the suspension yourself, in which case it's easy to do. Buy the Springs on the for sale forum, they are only £70-£80. If you find that they are not what you expected you can go for Prolines and be changing them over in half the time yourself. I wouldn't be buying used Konis though stick to new ones, good choice they are, I'll be trying them later myself.

Yeah fitting myself, I'm a Renault mechanic! Yeah appreciate all input, I already have the sportlines ready to go on when the shocks arrive - all brand new! Hopefully it will handle better, they handle well anyway I find! It looks far to high at times 30mm drop will be good and not to excessive, my mates Honda ek9 is far lower and he has been to nurburg 3 times with no issues.

  Westy. MX5
Renault mechanic, silly me, you'll change it all inside an hour then.

Ps. Why are the rear shocks a common failure?

We are forever changing, Clio, modus, scenics. We even had a brand new renault wind delivered and it pissed all the oil out of the rear shock and it had no miles on the clock.. I think they are just generally crap, my n/s/r has jus blown up!

This setup with the Koni shock, Ebiach springs, are what Mark Fish recommends. Wanted to get this setup for my 182, but couldnt cos of the spacing.
Good luck with it, maybe some reviews in the future.
