okay to best describe whats going on it to say underslight accelloration the car sounds like its getting petrol but its not speading up and if i put my foot down it suddenly kicks in and goes for it! (making horrable grinding nocking sound)

Also when putting the car into reverce with cluch on the floor it sometimes crunches and and i am to belive my cluch is on its way out what could this cost me ? will upgrading cluch affect insurance?

Are you stationary when you are putting it into reverse, or still slowly moving forward?

Give us a better idea of the engine aage milage car model and the problem I don't think many people understand your problem (well I don't then again I'm thick).

okay here goes my explination:

the car is a december 2004 clio 1.2 dynamique,it has 19097 miles on her

when we got the car the guy told us it was left cold for 2 months (dont belive him) we had the car at 17k and servised it at 18k.The disks and pads are f###ed (been replaced) as the guy has being racing it all the time ( but so do i :p) in 1st pulling away (level or incline) the engine makes a grunting like its rubing incide the engine and i belive my cluch is dieing as wheel spins are lot harder to do and i have since stopped this (wheelspining not the problem) the problem also continues in 2nd and a little in 3rd

my second problem is some time you i give it some welly and the cars getting fual but slowly starts to drop revs, i then put my foot to the floor and the power kicks in? as a note unless my foot goes right down or comes off the pedal the problem remains.

i also find that the car gets verry lumpy if been driven hard then sat idling (goes to anout 250rpm and stays jumpy (lights all dim in time with engine)

for backround the previous owner fitted an induction kit ( which i removed and replaced with standard box.

EDIT : also my reverse problem happens stationary but sometimes it goes straight in ?

Hope you guys can help

Right if your clutch is dieing you'll rev it in-gear and nothing will happen. Ie you go to pull off a hill give it revs and it revs but doesnt move. Does this happen?

reverse problem is common, mine does it at 130,000 miles and has done from brand new, so does my mums 2005 one, has done from new and is now at 70k so does 2 mates 1.2 16v's

put your car into 5th at 20mph and floor it and see if the revs climb but car stays at same speed (clutch slipping) or if it just vibrates and judders (clutch fine)

the car no longer wheelspins? lol if your one of the people who think its cool to wheelspin and makes the car look/go faster then thats why your clutch is fuked if it is!

if the revs are jumping down to 250rpm, its likely the coil pack thats what mine done.

EDIT: in response to the post above, my clutch lasted untill 115,000 miles so even driving it like an arse wheelspinning everywhere you should get atleast 40-50k from it!

i would say the coil pack could be responsable becuase when the engine is left idleing sometimes the light are diming but occationaly there is a popping sound ?

I've got an 03 1.6 16V dynamique+. It had always been abit lumpy on idle, would jump from about 500rpm to 700rpm and back down again. (bought from new by the way). It didn't seem to have any lack of power, although sometimes she could feel like she really couldn't be bothered. Due to the fact it's a French car and other people had similar problems , I thought ths was perfectly normal, so did nothing about it.

On Tuesday of this week however, I went out to the car, started her and got the shock of my life! She sounded like a tank and was as lumpy as f**k. I asked on here what the problem could be as she was obviously badly misfiring. To cut a long story short , the nice kind lads on here told me they thought it was a dodgy coil. I had it towed to the garage and it turned out it had blown TWO coils. (Center two). I got her back the same day and couldn't believe the difference. She now idles really smoothly and is now very quiet. She is actually better than she was when new. I have come to the conclusion that she had always had a problem that just wasn't that obvious. The response on the throttle is better than it ever was too.

It does sound to me that you have a similar problem, and would say (as the guys have said) that you probably have a fucked coil (coil pack as they are different on the 1.2s).

When it comes to the clutch. I find that sometimes mine just does not want to go into reverse. Seems like something is in the way, but if I pump the clutch pedal a couple of times she will then go straight in. It does sound like a common problem and could just be a case of the gear linkage needs adjusting. I'm not going to bother with mine as it only happens very rarely, but if it happens regularly to yours I would get it checked out.

Oh and the popping sound you are describing, sounds like a misfire, which again points towards a dodgy coil or leads/plugs.
