EML on 172

Hi,
Can someone help me?
Recently the EML came on, had an MOT on the car and it got hooked up to the computer and the guy in the garage said that it was an old code and there was nothing wrong with the car and got rid of the light.
Since having this done the day after the light came back on, took back to the garage still doesn't know why it came on! This then got turned off. Today it's just come back on - 2 days after being turned off!
Can anyone possibly shed any light on this?

Take it to a proper garage. Just deleting a code is pointless as you've just found out, it comes back on. There is something wrong and proper diagnostics need to be run the find the issue and resolve it.

Did the garage at least tell you what the fault code was?

As Scrooge says, there is a reason it keeps coming back.
