Engine bay sound-proofing removal

  172 Ph1/Scooby MY00
Not sure if this is the right section? Mods.

Has anybody taken out their sound-proofing, carpet like material from the back of the engine bay? I just wonder if it actually has much of a purpose (like the sound-proofing, carpet like material on the underside of the bonnet which I have already removed and binned!). Mines looking a bit flakey so I'd like to take it off.

Cheers, Rob669

would have originally been designed to dampen resonance and reduce the occurance of standing waves at certain speeds, dont know if it has any heat reduction properties but i guess its up to u wether or not u rip it out

What are standing waves? I don't like the soound of them very much.

I see you're in Lichfield, you are close to one of my fav roads - the A38 up to Burton. Lucky man.

:D yeah i like that stretch of road, very fast, and on the way back theres that little dip in the road that catches you!

standing waves are caused when resonances from multiple materials occur at the same frequency, it creates a louder signal at that frequency....i think i've explained that correctly, i guess u could try taking it out and see whats its like, if its caused anything unwanted then you could always fit it in again

The stuff at the back of the engine protects various cables and the brake hoses from the heat of the manifold.
